“You are the only one who can change things in your life”…

this is a quote I’ve heard numerous times throughout my life when faced with life’s adversities. I understand that we humans have a certain amount of control as to what happens in our lives; however, when the chips are down and life has you beat; how are you supposed to be the only one who can change this type of trouble in your life? I realize that the choices we make in life are what gets us into predicaments where we end up in bad situations; however, once we get into these bad situations its difficult to figure out how to get out of them. Therefore, how am I the only one who can change things in my life? Apparently, it is all about the decisions we make but how is it that we always seem to make the wrong decisions and our control of life seems out the window? I try to make the right decisions (choices) in my life but it seems like no matter how much I think I’m making the right choices later I find those choices to be in error. I guess my question here is how is it that people say I’m the only one who can change things in my life? There are too many obstacles in life to always be in complete control of one’s life. Your response will be greatly appreciated.

The quote doesn’t mean that you can’t get help. Nobody gets very far without assistance, but nobody can substitute for your own participation in your life.

Maybe getting the actual help is what it means? Like .. if you want to change, but need help, it is your responsebility to actually ASK for that help, so it is you who’s starting the change .. ?

Well personally, I don’t believe there are circumstances that are so difficult as so nobody has the ability to escape from them. If everyone was capable of presaging the outcome of decisions or the consequences, then surely we would all be in a better state. However, we don’t possess such a talent and therefore we must continue making decisions, despite any terrible aftermath they might exude.

i know what you mean, everyone can try to help themselves but also eveyone needs help from others at times and what if we have no one to ask for help then what?? its not always about what will happen after an event its just about getting through the event itself. so i suppose just try to deal with each day at a time.
