Broke and stressed out.

It’s how I’ve been lately since I stupidly got myself into some debts. Both from medical and from dropping out of the Penn Foster program (they stuck me with a huge bill for leaving). I lost my job due to some differences at my old work place. Now I REALLY don’t know what to do. I’m twenty years old and have bill collectors on me everywhere. I can’t apply for any loans at all. I’m no student and have no other collateral to use. I can’t ask family, as I already know they are just as broke as myself. I’m not sure what I can do. I am trying to look for work, but I’m finding nothing. Mostly because I live in such a small town. I’d move to find work elsewhere, but I’ve no funds to do so. Does anyone have a last resort? I owe about $1,000 total, if just a little more. I just want out of this all. But I can only try so hard.

get a temporary job while you look, something will open up eventually. sorry that’s not much help. maybe if you work long enough you can save money to move out of there and get a better job.

isn’t the last resort declaring bankruptcy? you’d need to talk to a financial advisor. if you have no collaterol/assets it might be a good option for you. but i would first try and find a credit counselling charity in the yellow pages - in my area, there are several that offer free counselling, and can help with things like consolidating debts, negotiating payments you can cope with, etc. there could very well be one in the nearest bigger city.

Two great options: Job Corps and the military.

With both, they will house you, feed you, and train you, and pay you for it. The programs will enrich you and make you more employable.

I went into Job Corps with a $5000+ debt, when I left, I had saved enough to pay off the debt, buy a new car, and got a job paying more than double what I was making before.

how to find a job:

Go to a store you would like to work in.
E.g. a music store.Cd’s etc.
Stand around and look at stuff as though you are a customer.
When you hear some other customer talking about some
music,go over and approach them.
Strike up a friendly conversation about the music of interest.
Keep doing this until the store manager sees you doing it.
If he comes over and talks too you ,tell him you would love
to work here.
Be patient with this method. It may take some time for it to work.
Obviously you need to know stuff about music.

e.g. a hardware store.
Help people find stuff and advise them.
Help carry there stuff or whatever.
Make yourself look friendly and helpful.
Be Irresistable.
