life help: I’ve got what appears ‘on paper’ to be a fantastic life. - Help.com

I’ve got what appears ‘on paper’ to be a fantastic life.

I’m self employed doing the exact job I want, I have a house, car, and no debt, yet I am left feeling constantly unhappy and unfulfilled.

I feel I’ve been blessed in life for whatever reason, and as such I should do things to help others, but where do I start?

I want to act locally in my community, however I am not religious in any way and would probably not entertain anything which was primarily organised by and religious outlet (e.g. ‘churches’), for my own reasons.

I’d like to help young people, the elderly, animals, virtually anything where they actually benefit from my time, rather than giving to charity, which again, for my own reasons, I think is futile.

Any ideas appreciated.

No I haven’t Angie. I had a somewhat strange/dysfunctional upbringing which caused me a lot of problems in relationships, which I was making a terrible mess of.

I’ve had some time out (years) of relationshipping to give myself time (with counselling, etc.), to change my various beliefs and adjust my reckless and damaging behaviour in that sense. I feel I’m about ‘ok’ now, but it’s still not something I want to actively seek out as I can’t trust myself to not be attracted to the wrong person.

You’ve obviously hit on another major issue with my life here, but really this isn’t about that.

hi I’m 22, single, the name is Nikkie. and I’m from Utah. lol and religion is a great way to fulfill a void of unhappyness in your life but if its helping others that too can also help with feeling the void of unhappyness.

I come from a religious background been in one religion my entire life. I think its the true church for me probably not for everyone I know everyone has their own beliefs and such with religion. I am of the LDS religion (LDS stands for - The church of jesus christ of latter day saints) And people confuse my religion with the paligamist religion all the time but we really aren’t like that. The men don’t marry more than one woman in our religion We only marry one person and thats it. lol But enough of my preachyness I am sorry I did that but ya anyways lol.

oh wait one more thing I forgot to say lol is that our religion is also called mormon’s but our proper name would be LDS religion haha so see the reason confuse our religion so much is because we are also known as mormons when that is what paligimist’s are known as to some people. But anyways sorry again for blabbing off on religion I know its not what everyone wants to discuss because religion is a touchy subject to most people. Sorry if i offended anyone.

You could call your local youth club to help children, or become a scout/guide leader. Or call a local charity, look on the phone book there are probably more than you think. Or visit the elderly there is this adopt a granparent scheme in the UK where you go visit old peoples homes just talk to people and keep them company. Homeless shelters cry out for volunteers again check local listings. I recently raised money for Help the aged by organising charity events. Abseiled down a building to raise money for a local peace hospice. Google local charites and call them they will be glad of a new volunteer
