Fighting fears; when you’re really scared about something, how do you get over it?

I get scared sometimes, about stupid stuff, but it being stupid doesn’t make it go away; any help here would be appreciated!

Specifically, by the way, this relates to things like social phobias; thanks again.

Fear is worst when we are alone. Kids know this instinctively and reach out for their parents when they are afraid. We can’t call out exactly the same way as adults, but we all still benefit from the comfort of a friendly voice and hug when scared (and sometimes when not scared!).

Get connected to other people. I understand about social phobias, but as long as you can talk to a friend or be with friends and family that can be enough.

What kinds of social situations make you scared or trigger panic attacks?

not sure how this would apply to social phobia’s. But Forcing yourself (either gradually or rapidly) into situations which are filled with your fears is a viable and widely applied form of therapy.

Sigmond Frued, possibly the most known Psychologist had a severe phobia of heights. Until, that is, he forced himself to walk up onto a roof of a very tall building and lean over the edge until his heart rate subsided)

Perhaps edge your way into social situations and make sure to come away from them focusing on how well you have done. Keep careful track on your progress. And if you keep it up this should have a very positive effect.

I have had to face many fears in the last few years. The best thing I found is a little cliched but it worked. Just face them. The fear of the unknown is the worst of all. Once you face your fear and you know what you are facing it is really a lot easier to deal with.
