Sorry…without a specific question this gets a little complicated to explain with writing, but here goes!

OK…so fractions have 2 parts: the numerator (top number) and denominator (bottom number). If the fraction is 3/8, the numerator is the 3 and the denominator is the 8.

The trick with adding/subtracting fractions is to make sure the denominators (bottom numbers) are the same. The rest is a piece of cake!

Once your denominators are the same for both your fractions, you can just add or subtract the numerators for the new numerator…then slide over the denominator.

Example: 3/11 + 5/11 = 8/11 (Add the 3 and 5 for the new numerator and slide over the 11 for the denominator)

Example: 8/13 - 5/13 = 3/13 (Subtract 5 from 8 for the new numerator and slide over the 13 for the denominator)

If the denominators are different, you need to make them the same before you can add/subtract the fractions. I don’t want to go too far with an explanation on that since I’m not sure where you’re at with your studies. If you have more specific questions or need common denominator help, please let me know. Good luck and congrats on doing well in school!
