Well you have to be approved, make sure you would do the job fairly and use bdiscretion, and dif the admin agrees, your a mod.

First off, aren’t all mods volunteers? I’d also like to ask if someone is an mod; don’t they normally have a star icon by their name?

Next, this site has gone through this same situation before…if you encounter a troll, simply red flag it and make a report. It’s a lot easier than you may think. Thankfully, I’ve not encountered any trolls lately.

Only problem with ignoring trolls is that if someone is going through a really hard time, the wrong words can do alot of damage, Ive been there trolls arent always just idots sometimes they can hit you where it hurts, or simply at the wrong time.

we need more mods definently the last new mod we got was banned because of “supposedly” abusing thier powers, so who is to say who the next mod will be.

Yes that is a problem, however we just have to wait and see what helpmod will do for us, I have gotten word from an excellent source that he is a great person (not telling who either)

I agree, we definitely need moderators that are expeditious and impartial when banning the uncivil(trolls) people.

I think everyone knows we need more mods even the admins but they are probably sorting out more important things at the moment (I hope) hence the reason for leaveing us all in the cold.

Thats only good when we all do it but some don’t so even if your on a post and you ignore them the whole way through you can bet someone else will barge in and start argueing with them.

Maybe that’s how it’s so easy for you to tolerate trolls. Are you a troll?

I’ve been here for 3 years. Banned once because I accidentally put an extra number in an HTML code. The ban was taken off, because the mod saw no reason for it.

No I’m not a troll. We have to keep this site going, till something happens.

Trolls will just go away but some people do get hurt nbby the things they say and nobody wants to see a post taken over by a troll who wont stop repling, atleast in some cases you can keep a troll in there own post for a while to keep them from bothering anyone else, containment.

Again I say: if you encounter a troll, red flag that post and report it. Ignoring the situation is not going to fix it. Don’t just blame this site when you’re not doing what you can do to help this site.

those that push the red flag are coward and should be ashamed of themselves ….. unless ur sending a mod a love note like i used to do to mas to mess with her……mas- love me tender love me sweet never let me go…..those kinds are fine to put in the red boxes :)

Agreed. I say the same thing, yes oops, i forgot about the flag. Report, ignore, done. This site is loosing a lot of members due to the site going down, There’s a new admin, and we hope he fixes things. Just wait.

I dont think the sites to blame for anything, lack of moderation is though, but I guess theres nothing anyone can do at the moment as opposed to pushing the red flag and waiting for something to happen…

Are you using the same account? And I agree with you that we should ignore the trolls, and if we see an offensive remark we should report it and should not edit posts, unless it is so vile and so degrading that it would be horrifying for 13 year olds to see it, and inform the mod of any changes you may make (i.e. just let them know you have made it.

Yeh, My first account got deleted because I switched my birthday around :( Dyslexic but I’ve been here for 3 years.

we now have a new admin… HOPEFULLY this problem will be solved soon!! as for the trolls.. best advice is to ignore them… if you dont give them anything to feed on… they cant keep on their journey…

I do agree with the “don’t feed the trolls” thing, but, the trolls spam up the front page and make it harder to get to those that need help. Some even ask for help and then troll you after you try to.
I think we need mods that specialize in one section of help.
Like one to go through and delete trolls and spam, one to check through and help others and one to watch chat.
We need more plans and direction in the force.
More mods in other timezones too

Yeh. I agree, but there’s nothing we can do.. So we should try our best to help. Those who need it. :]

-Anthrax is currently on holiday however he still does come on… and before going on holiday he was not really modding anyways…
-K, I think is a guy. And I have seen a bit more of K around the place in the last one or two weeks, he is obviously doing as much as he can on the ModQ
-Sully’s laptop has crashed and and can only use his PDA till he gets a new one where he is, in China. So he cannot Moderate the site from his PDA.
-Mitzy currently has no Internet of what I’ve heard and she will be returning as soon as she is online again

I also think that there is no point in asking for new mods because I think we have said it enough and that the message has been received, we just have to wait and see…
What I think? I think that the site has is actually coping a bit better because there is less moderation and people are learning to defend for themselves, use their own judgment and just leave things alone.

Having Mods with different specialties huh, well I think that’s a bit silly because then you’d have to have way more mods of each specialty in each timezone to have them on at the same time, and yes I do think that we need more mods in different timezones.

No matter how much you guys ***** and moan, the bottom line is that CBS doesn’t care about a website that gains no revenue. Why should they? There is a current mod shortage and it is quite noticable in comparison to before the site changes, however the moderators who are still getting around are already aware. However there is only one who can administer the mod power to users, so there’s no use voting or nominating or anything. Some users are waiting for the “new manager” to come and assist the other. I just don’t understand why we all can’t be mature enough to deal with our own issues. I’ve been on this site for well over a year and have always tried my level best NOT to offend anyone. As for those who may have offended me, I sound them a shout to explain why I was offended…so often, they didn’t realize the offense and go out of their way to correct it. Of course that doesn’t always work so I’ll red flag their offensive post and let admin handle it. Admin always dealt with the situation and I feel confident they always will…new admin or not. The one thing I’d never do is trash the offensive user in public (I just wouldn’t stoop as low as them….I respect myself too much for that1)\

That is honestly down to the mod but this is no longer a post asking for the mods this is just gone into a joke post so I too am leaving (if you need me invite me or shout me)

It makes me mad because I left a very long and helpful reply that is still under verification, 2 weeks later.

well it feels like two weeks. obviously i didn’t check the date.

my account has been verified for 11 days… i just checked the email. that reply was the first i made and happened to got caught in the filter so doesn’t show up under my posts.

The mods are volunteers and are all doing the best they can. Please have some patients. We are trying our best to make this a site everyone can enjoy. We know there is a backlog along with various other problems, and people are trying to get it all fixed.

If you feel like one of your replies or posts have been unjustly deleted please shout me. I did kind of go through them quickly considering there were ~650 of them.

Anyway, everything should be back on track and our banhammers should be working in a timely matter once more on those trolls.

Just popping in to say

1. Don’t stop helping. If you think someone is wasting your time, unsubscribe. Though sometimes it pays to respond as though the post is genuine because you never know who may be reading. Many site visitors come to find answers to their problems by reading other posts. It is possible to ignore the “troll” and give sound advice to a “hypothetical” situation sometimes.

2. Don’t let anger get in the way of wisdom. Fighting back with harsh words doesn’t help. It just wastes more of your time.

3. Hitting the red flag is cowardly? Hmm. I’m not quite sure what it is that makes someone who is prepared to stamp out unacceptable behaviour and stand up for the site’s rules a coward… I guess I’m missing something. It doesn’t help the mods if they don’t know what is going on !

4. Posts that are insulting/designed to cause hurt/argumentative ? Given that they don’t slot into the description of the site’s ethos anywhere and are likely to be in breach of TOU’s somewhere along the line - give them a wide berth or report them. Let the trolls feed off them if they must.

I know this has all been said before probably. It just needs more to believe it.
