Try looking for apartment buildings that base the rent on your income. There is an apartment complex around where I live that does that, and it really does help the people that have low income. Its called Mulberry Hills. Check with some apartment complexes and ask them about rent based on income, couldn’t hurt. Good luck!!

I know it’s never anyone’s top choice, but try a roomate. Two or three people have so much more buying power than one, and sometimes you’ll find it works out nicely. Another thing to look at, depending on where you are (city vs. country), are co-ops. I lived in one for two years, you can generally get your own room for very cheap and food and utilities are often included.

You can always try government assitance where they can subsidize your rent and you can get a nice apt. Have never tried it but know people who have. This does not mean that you have to go on welfare it is just a way to subsidize your rent. I did rent a room for about two months when I transferred to a new job but I would not recommend it, only do it if you have too. Having your own place is much better. Good luck

Also forgot to mention that there are sooooo many opportunities out there for people with low income to buy a home. I went to a home buying seminar and it was crazy how many grants are out there for you. Definitely do an internet search on it.
