Slippery slope of addiction…

i’m worried im addicted to my stimulant medication that my doc prescribed. What do I do? I don’t want to stop because when I’m on the medicaion it makes me feel energetic and I can finally accomplish things. When I don’t take it tho…I feel awful. I can’t concentrate or find the motivation to do anything. I have recently been taking more then I should to feel better. I need help! I know I do! No one really knows how bad this is getting. I’m embarrassed to tell anyone close to me but would be even more upset if I did become a drug addict! I just want to be normal again…what ever that may be! I really could use some advice and to talk about this please?! :S

you need to let your doctor know of ANY side effects, including feelings of dependency, the only one who can really help you is your doc, dont be embarrassed to talk to your doc, i mean u must have told him/her something to get on them, dont be afraid to say what they do for you

Well, he thinks I have ADHD and I have drpression so he thinks that these will help with the ADHD and boosting my energy so I won’t be so upset. Its working for the energy and all but I still free depressed a lot. The reason I even started taking a lot of pills was because I was going to OD on them….thats not my intent now but ever since that night i attempted to end everything I can’t stop taking more then I should! What does that mean?

I go to the doctor on Monday so I’ll tell him then about whats goin on….I’m just really nervous about it! I don’t know how to bring it up or what to say about it! I’m scared for lack of better word!

why are u scared of telling the doc exactly, how do u expect him to react?
the od attempt, did that take place before or after ur doc prescribed these, does your doc or anyone know of the attempt, i know ur saying its not like that for you now, but the more information provided the easier it is to help, its funny how seemingly unconnected pieces complete the puzzle where least expected

Well, i’ve tried it a total of 3 times….twice before this medication was prescribed. My doctor knows about the 2 previous times I tried it. Thats kinda why i was a little taken back that he gave me so many of this medication. Not that I was planning on taking more then I was suppose to at the time. I guess I’m afraid because he trusted me by giving me all these pills and then i messed it all up! I guess i expect him to be angry that I’m takin all these. Disapointed, would be worse then getting angry tho….idk it sounds stupid but i can’t help it. Then I’m afraid that he’ll tell my parents and then that will be another mess in itself

I don’t know if you are addicted or not but you definitely need to talk to your doctor and be totally honest with him. Doctors don’t always find a medicine that will work for you on the first try. It is really a guessing game with meds. What works for one might not work for another person.

There is a difference in being addicted and being dependent on a medicine. If you need something to fix a problem that is dependence. If you take it even though it is doing you more harm than good then that is addiction.

A friend of mine once told me that you can’t pray sitting on your hands. Yes, God is there and prayer does work, but He has also given us doctors and medicines and you have to have the sense to use the tools that God has given us and not just sit on our hands and do nothing. Now I’m not knocking God or prayers. I am a very firm believer in both of them.

Your doctor will understand. Just be honest.

That is very true. No doctor wants his patient to hurt.
