My big recommendation is that you pay attention to where you want to work as a fisherman. Some fisheries are getting so depleted the government is stepping in to freeze or reduce quotas on catches. Consequently the hiring market isn’t all that great.

Do you have an idea as to what kind of commercial fishing you want to get involved in? Or the location of where you want to be working? If you know we might be able to get you some tips specific to your goal.

I wouldn’t do it. Like C.M said it’s getting depleted. My uncle did it for 10 years while there was a plentiful population for snapper, dorado, grouper, etc. He got out of it a few years ago because his cut was drasticazlly reduced and he is now in school getting a degree. He was out for a month at a time…off for a few days and went back out for another month. You could handle that in the military, however can u handle not talking to your family for allmost a month unless it’s an emergency?

I would think about what you can do to get a degree for a better pay and an easier job.
