I had mine taken out when I was 16, they went too deep when they ctut them out but I was out and about within 2 weeks no overnight stay had op in the morning then was in my bed by evening, they won’t let you go till you eat toast tho, and it was the best thing I ever done, i suffer every 2 weeks from tonsilitus and have hardly had a sore throat since having them removed
what do you mean till you eat toast?
They wouldn’t let me out the hospital untill I ate toast, it scrathes the scab off, just a bit and you can go
ishhh did that hurt?
It hurt’s a bit but it’s bearable, no worse that having tonsilitus really the girl in the room next to me was scoffing pizza a crisps, so I was being a massive wimp
hahah well thank you victoria sponge today is my 9th day so im hoping this is over before valentines day
thanks for the help
:)(:
this is my 11th day and i’m starving
just had mine taken out two days ago, the pain hurts worse than it did yesturday, i also got tubes put in at the same time. any tips would be helpful.
Victoria Sponge that toast eating comment was totally wrong. I had my tonsils out 10 days ago and they offer you ice water and a popsicle in recovery, My doctor specifically told me NOT to eat toast. I really haven’t been able to eat anything solid besides soft boiled eggs and the odd piece of bread with butter which i stopped eating do to the fact that it just hurt to much to swallow and seemed to clump up at the back of my throat. The first 2 day’s weren’t to bad but the following week has been pretty awful, kind of a roller coaster of feeling pretty good to being in a lot of pain. I also had to work days 5 through 9 which was fairly un pleasant but i honestly thought this surgery was gonna be a breeze. Boy was i wrong, my friend had a baby a couple of months ago and she’s had her tonsils out and she said that although having the baby was more painful that she take having a baby over having the tonsillectomy any day because of the horrible recovery. Not that i’m saying its not worth it, i’m stoked to not have to deal with recurring tonsillitis. In any case they are not going to make you eat toast, like a tattoo or any kind of scab from a scrape you ALWAYS let the scab come off naturally. They told me around day 5 or 6 they should start to come off and they said that in those day’s it would be very painful. Day 10 so far is a lot less pain, i just got up and haven’t yet taken any pain meds and the pain seem quite do able. I’ve been having food dreams at night haha. i can’t wait to go for sushi when i can eat! i’ve lost about 8 pounds.
It was 10 years ago now that I had mine out and not an ice cream in sight, they tokd me cold things like ice cream would make it worse and I was to drink hot drinks and rough food. It was agony but 10 years free of tonisilitus and it was all worth it. They seriously were not going to let me out of the hospital till I ate the **** toast
Well your doctor had a degree in torture then, they told me specifically not to eat toast or drink hot drinks. i’m on day 12 now and still can’t even eat bread so your doctor was either on crack or you’re making up a good story. If in fact this is true you should have sued him for malpractice.
oh and p.s you can’t eat rough foods not only because its agony but because it can tear at the back of your throat and cause major Hemorrhaging.
Yes I come here everyday to make up stories thats right I am that bored with my life, thats what I have to do. It happened, I recovered it didn’t bleed to death and if you read any literature over here on tonsil recovery it says it is important to eat normal foods as soon as possible
funny that i just phoned yesterday and talked with my surgeon and he told me that eating anything other than soft food would slow my recovery. My surgeons name is Dr. Donald R. Mintz and he is a throat specialist and is quite renowned so i think i’ll go with what he’s told me. I also looked up a ton of stuff on the net and everything is saying, this is a direct quote from one article (crispy or brittle foods should be avoided until healing is complete) (Either cool or warm foods are acceptable never hot)(Drink only liquids during the first 48 hours after surgery)(Adults are much slower to recover after a tonsillectomy. It is not uncommon for an adult to be off of work for 2 to 3 weeks and not eating solids for at least 2 weeks) Thats just from a bunch of different articles i read. I think that is why it is taking me so long to recover, he said it would be much longer for me due to having very large tonsils, deep wounds and the fact that i’m 28 years of age. Maybe you were quite a bit younger, they say the younger you are the faster the recovery like 4 to 5 day’s. In any case i don’t really want to argue about it, but i will admit that i find it amusing to debate things. :P oh and dude, i watched the procedure actually being done on you tube, soooo gross. you should check it out!
I don’t want to argue with you but I don’t want to be called a lier, your in the states right? They have different practices right?

I was young, apparently they cut to deep on my right side and I still get twinges even now, I recovered in about a week and maybe it was due to this rough food as well as my young age, or maybe they changed their minds about it, who know, all I know is I am not making up stories, why would I, its not even common practice to remove tonsil over here anymore and definatly not in adults
The operation leaves the patient with a sore throat lasting for around ten days and may also cause ear pain. A couple of weeks off school or work doesn’t go amiss. The complications of the operation include bleeding, which should be seen urgently by a doctor, and infection, which can best be avoided by staying away from communal areas, drinking lots of fluid and eating properly. That, by the way, means lots of toast6.
Taken from the BBC website, its british practice, I like every other person had seen American shows where they feed you ice cream and was shocked when presented with my toast but it’s true, us Brits recover with Tea and toast and not with any complaints
No, I’m from Canada. You Brits are crazzzzzy hahaha. I looked up a few sites out of Britian and you’re right it does say to eat normally and eat toast. That is utterly bizarre. Although I’ve read everywhere that an adult tonsillectomy is NOTHING like a child’s even though is the same procedure. Honestly i have a high pain tolerance, I’m tattooed from all over my body and have been pierced all over, had major knee surgery and can definitely say that there is no way that i would have been able to eat toast or could even now, i finally ate my first meal of tortellini yesterday followed by pierogis for dinner which was pretty delicious, i had to stop myself from gorging after 13 day’s of no food. Anyway that’s hilarious that it turns out that we’re both right being that we’re from totally different countries, and they just do things different. This is one of the articles that i was taking info off of but its from the states so this is why i was like, what is this chick talking about? lol anyway sorry that i may have seemed rude, i just thought you were a nut bag lmao. http://www.livestrong.com/article/105…
It was the most painful thing I ever went through, I am glad I was only 16, yep tattoos a breeze compared to that, I was refusing to eat my toast and started pacing the room, puked a lot and they gave me a massive dose of something to calm me down and paracetamol, I had a tiny bit of toast and they said I could go home, where my mum kept bringing me toast, best diet I ever went on. Glad we sorted it:-)
Glad you managed to eat too. How you feeling today? Also despite the pain, you wont regret it, have hardly had a sore throat since, loose my voice quite a bit tho!
Well it was day 15 yesterday and i was getting sick of the pain so i went to the walk in clinic and the doctor said that it looked like it could be getting infected so he put me back on the antibiotics so i’m feeling a bit better today, ate a avocado walnut salad, which was super delicious! I’m stoked to be better with my eating habits now that i just went so long without food it will be much easier to control my urges. Never been close to fat or anything but i’m back down to 115 and plan on losing 5 more pounds which has been my goal for a long time. So i’m almost there! woot. i have to attend a bachelorette party tonight uuuugh not reallllly looking forward to it but it has to be done. Male strippers are not my idea of a good time. ahahaha. So what do you do for work and fun??
Great diet hey, oh salad sounds good. Oh I went to a bachelorette party a few weeks ado, we call it a Hen night tho, and it was actually quite fun watching the stripper picking on the bride but sure it wouldnt have been fun to be picked on. I work for a car manufacturer at the moment but only for 4 more weeks then I fly to Australia for a new life, cant wait, apart from that I just like to chill out with my friends and bg, share some wine, food and laughs, nothing too exciting I’m afraid
how old are you ‘VICTORIA’ i hav had my tonsils removed about 6 hours ago.. that story about the toast is total ****.. but i know where you got your story from, with kids the doc does recomend toast but that is only after like a week has gone by. and any way you cannot compare a childs tonsilectomy to they of an adult.. anyone looking for info id recomment talking to your doc rather
victoria sponge is correct. My 9 year older daughter has just had her tonsils out and they offered her toast or biscuite or cereal to eat before they would let her go home. They advised her to eat a normal diet and to try and eat crispts as it keeps the throat nice and clean!!
i don’t know if people still check this or not but i had my tonsils removed a week ago today and i have been in the worst pain of my life, i’m 27 and i live in Canada. The first few days were a breeze but then it got bad, and 2 days ago i was in bed and coughed and started to bleed, i spent that whole day in hospital. Supper time they sent me home and that same night it happened again but this time the blood just kept coming, i filled half a small bedroom garbage bucket, so at the hospital while i was awake they forced this big long thing down my throat with gauze on the end and pushed really hard at the spot of bleeding and then burned the area while i was awake and urging and throwing up blood non stop until finally they managed to stop the bleeding. And i haven’t slept in 48 hours because of non stop pain, no matter how much Demorall or Atasol30 i take matters. They did tell me only liquids (NOTHING HOT ESPECIALLY) and soft foods like yogurt and pudding and jello, which i cant eat any of because it hurts that bad to swallow, i have been nursing a chocolate flavored Boost (energy, calcium, …) drink and water, is all i can handle, and that’s only because i have to have something.
My daughter is having her tonsils taking out plus she is having surgery on her ears again i wonder will she be in alot of pain and how long will it last she is only 3…
i got my tonsils out 5 days ago and my throat is throbbing and my mouth feels disgusting and im 11 and my doctor told me to eat soft foods and drink alot of liquid and i havent eating since i have lost 6 pounds and i cant swallow it feels like im being shot in the throat but when i do swallow it dont hurt until the food gets to the bottom of my throat my ear is feeling the same way and everybody that tells me they got their tonsils tooken out when i ask them about it they say i cant remember was a baby i wish i was a baby it hurts like crazy this is the worst day i havent brushed my tongue since the morning i got my surgery the doctor said my tonsils were HUGE
