I was about to say what jcd said about governments not profiting, it’s more so companies.
I’m not single but I still don’t particularly like the day. Now steak and bj day (March 14th), that’s a day that needs to be properly recognised :)

AMEN! I have felt from day one that Valentine’s day is a waste of a day. Did you know that valentine’s day is the second least photographed holiday? the least one is groundhog’s day. I have always beleived it’s just an excuse for the government to make money, i’ve just never heard anyone else having that same opinion. Whether i’m in a relationship or not when valentines day comes around, i just roll my eyes whenever i hear about it. Some conversations at work go like this once a year; My Boss: what do you need to take off work for? Me: Valentine’s day (as i’m heading out the door). My boss: that ain’t a real holiday, get your *** back in here. So yea, the only advantage i could possibly get of it would be to get off work but even that hope is destroyed. Well, that’s life for ya… … or, at least that’s life for me…

They are the ones who are making a profit off of taxes. Valentine’s day is just another excuse to make people buy stuff and the taxes off that stuff go to the government.

I agree that it’s a pointless holiday, but I think the card companies, flower shops, and candy makers are making more money than the government.

Yea but the government is making money from all of them across the country. Each one of them individually is making money only from the area they’re in minus the people that go to competing florists and such.

Did you know that there isn’t really even a saint valentine? another fact to support my opinion. Besides, how do you think the whole “christmas in summer” thing got started? the goverment saw a long stretch of time with only one semi-major holiday, that being the fourth of july, and decided to try and make money off of it. Could someone remind me again what we get out of it after we keep paying the goverment all these taxes so that they can “help” us?
