I think I might have ADHD - but what can I do?
I’m very easily distracted, cannot focus on something unless it really interests me (hyperfocusing, I think it’s called), extremely disorganized and constantly lose things, have social problems due to various issues (getting immaturely playful when bored, being too blunt or saying/doing things before considering consequences), cannot sleep well because my brain won’t “shut down”, have emotional outbursts fairly often, etc. etc. etc. So, yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s ADHD. This has been going on since I was in kindergarten, maybe earlier but I can’t remember. I’ve always done well in school, because it didn’t take much of my attention to get an A, but now my grades are starting to drop as things get harder and I can’t focus enough to study or understand what’s going on in class. I’m in high school and am female. No hyperactivity, but I’ve heard that that factor’s more common in boys.
Getting to the point now… What can I do about it? Can medication help? Does it have side effects? Would therapy be better? I don’t know what to do about my parents… They have problems with denial. They’ll ignore everything and I don’t know who to turn to.
As a last hope, is there any other explanation you can think of for these long-term problems?
