army help: I’m getting ready to take my tests for the Canadian Armed Reserve Forces, and I need to score 75 or higher on the hand grip. - Help.com

I’m getting ready to take my tests for the Canadian Armed Reserve Forces, and I need to score 75 or higher on the hand grip.

Last time I tried the hand grip I scored 73 or so. Does anyone know what exercises/workouts I can do at home to increase that? I’m not sure what type of exercise I need to do to improve that score. Also, if I score about 74 on the hand grip or something like that, will the Army still accept me, or is that un-acceptable? Thanks in advance for answering my two questions.

If this is a selection course you’re required to meet a mathematical standard, but you are graded on your overall performance. If you technically failed that particular test, but displayed satisfactory performance in the rest of your course, you should still be selected.

I am attempting to join the Royal Marine Commandos (UK), and someone on my Potential Officer Course technically failed his pressup, pullup and situp tests by up to 5 points; but his determination and overall performance resulted in a pass.

You can buy devices that simulate the grip on the hand grip test; if you don’t want to do that you can try squeezing a tennis ball or something similar.

Here, you do have to pass things individually. It’s not an overall thing. Like if you are above and beyond with situps (or any of the other exercises) and not so good with the running, they will still want you to pass the running. and vice versa.

When I went, the recruiter told me about that test. He told me that he hasn’t seen a “MOTHER” not pass the test yet. Go take care of a baby for a while, by yourself, keeping baby in one arm all the time, while trying to get everything else done with one hand. I suppose that is why they always pass….. or maybe it’s the extra workout that their hands get squeezing the snot out of their spouses hand during labour, LOL.
