Definition of ‘Reflective Practitioner’

A ‘reflective practitioner’ is someone who, at regular intervals, looks back at the work they do, and the work process, and considers how they can improve. They ‘reflect’ on the work they have done.

They are not happy to carry on at the current standard, they want to improve, they do not believe in the saying, ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’.

Everyone should be a ‘reflective practitioner’, in particular, as in my case, when they are writing a dissertation. You need to learn from the experiences, and mistakes of others, you need to look at what you are doing and how others are doing the same thing; can anything be improved? Can anything be done better?

i follow this in my working practices as a community education worker. a youth worker, even as a volunteer. i continuously strive to better my working practices. seeing as im here and giving advise id feel it very arrogant if i simply thought i was right and i needed no improvement. i want to be able to give great advice not becuase i think its the best but because i know it is.

An hour ago i left to go to the initial meeting to arrange an event day for the local community off my own back, i left thinking when i come back i would leave help.com, for certain reasons that i will go into in a post i will make later today. there are things i need to say about certain users whom i will not name ever, but whose approaches have really hit a nerve and i need to speak out about.

if im staying here im no longer going to shy away from these people or the problems facing this site, instead im going to bring them to the surface. hopefully, im going to give what i take from certain people from now on.

don’t worry about it, hes an atheist he has to point out the flaws in everything :p
and you cant carry out a self evaluation without feedback from peers first, at leas not an effective one. you need to know what other people liked disliked, you cant continue to assume what your doing is good or what your changing is for the best when it isn’t change for you.

well its actually a method me as a community education and development worker goes through at the end of every week with a team. we evaluate each other and ourselves.
after all i my think im doing a good job but may have missed something a colleague has noticed and brings to my attention. that way we learn from mistakes and learn from each others experiences as well. this way we are constantly improving our ability to do our job.
