The meaning of life.

Many have speculated as to what it might be.
The pessimistic of us say it is simply to live work and die with few moments of happiness or joy.
The optimistic of us would prefer to think of life as a roller coaster of ups and downs.
The religious view that we live to serve a higher power, to prove our selves worthy of our next life.
The scientist in us may think that we ultimately are living to reproduce.

I tend to think life has very little meaning, we are when it comes down to it simply animals. We have one lasting animistic urge and that is reproduction. on a base level it could be argued it is our only purpose for existence. The true meaning of life is down to the individual, meaning is something that only the individual can truly aspire to for himself, it could be one mans meaning is to settle down with a fammily and live to watch his children grow. Another man could see meaning and fulfillment in money and power.
ultimately perhaps we don’t know quite if we have found our meaning until we are on deaths door, maybe it is only then that we realize we have done all we wanted in life or not.

To me the meaning I have chosen to apply to my life. Is that I live it to its fullest, if I am to work I will work in a job I love, I want to learn as much as I can from anyone that is willing to teach me and I want to grow old raise a fammily and pass on what Ive learned to my children and to anyone willing to listen.
I want to travel, I want to bungee jump and jump out of a plane, I want to when it comes time be able to look back on my life with a smile.

What do you all think? have you found a meaning to your life?

No meaning. I`m an actor in God`s sit-com. I see my life as completely pointless. It entertains me at times knowing there is someone watching me…

Lifes an experience and it is down to you as an individual to decide how you experience it, you can shoose to moan about what you want to do, you can sit and speculate the meaning of life and you role in it and getting yourself depressed, or you can experience it, make the most of it and pass on your stories and and experience

there’s a beginning and an end that we have no control over… there’s no point getting worked up about the beginning and don’t make a fuss about dying till you know your on deaths door. the only part of our life’s we have control of is fortunately also the longest part and that is the middle. so heck, youve been born against your will, and your going to die most likely against your will to. so live it up while you have the chance haha

My meaning is seeking happines.
My meaning is setting my life so well and right that it just not bring happines to me, but also life around me.
My meaning of existing is spread the good spirit around, see that everything I do is what I have wanted and shows that I have done it for some deeper reason, even if it would be stupid, atleast I can then learn through my mistakes.

Life is mented to show us something, if we are just humble and smart enough to lissen.
There is beautiful life all around us, and we should forster it and take care of our environment and nature while we’r trying to proceed on our ways to seek happines for our selfs as well. Life isn’t about miseries, those only happens because we should see the lecture out of it so we are able to make things better in the future, we should see through troubles so we are able to grow as a human beings and see what the life is showing us so someday later things will be better for all kind of life.
Everything reflects on everything, and if we are not making our shares right, things get worse and we will pay the prize of the injustice and wrong things what we have done. Math explains the relations and the terms of possibilities and why things are as they are and how things are working, but in our minds stays the secred of spiritualism and our lifes more special being than just what we are capable to explain with statics and words and modern science, everything is sum of everything and we as the most logical thinkers of the whole animal kindom are able to see some point and meaning in all this meaningles madnes which is never as it first might look like…

To paraphrase something by an author of a book I just read: There are not 30 billion people all out here living the same life. There are 30 billion different lives that are lived at the same instance as yours is happening.

How each person chooses to live their own is only relevant to yours if something either of you do touches the life of the other.

As you have seen on this site, a simple “I care” can touch the life of someone half a world away. That statement adds more meaning to my life, and I think all any of us can hope for is to make our lives as meaningful as possible. Like you say there are two instances we have no control over, and it doesn’t matter what you do for a living, your religion, or for enjoyment in your life as long as what you do has meaning for you, adds value in your life and those lives that yours touches.

For me it’s living. Living encompasses the good times and the bad times. It’s all life and it’s happening every minute of every day of our existence. No one gets out alive and it’s what you make it. I have decided to make the most of it which would mean to enjoy all this life has to offer, good and bad. To learn the lessons brought by pain as well as savour the goodness in all things. To help my fellow human. To hopefully leave a thoughtful legacy behind in my children and embrace each day with wonder, awe and gratitude.

hmmmmmm….well, not to be pessimistic….but I don’t think that there is any more meaning in my life than there is in anyone else’s. I think:

I’m here to raise my kids. But if I don’t love them, someone will; someone could give them a better life than I can

I’m here to be a teacher. But if I don’t teach, someone will; someone could teach fourth graders about fractions and make them understand better than I can

I’m here to be a wife. But if I don’t love my husband, someone will; someone could take his faults and deal with them better than I can

I’m here to keep a tidy house. But if I don’t do it, it’s not the end of the world; some people live in dumps (orphans in Calcutta, etc) and still live

I’m here to eat food. But if I don’t do it, someone else will; there are plenty who are starving

I’m here to change someone’s life. But if I don’t do it, someone else will…..

Yes, I can be a positive influence and I can be a negative influence in this life; and I am/have been/will be a little of both throughout my lifetime. But….so can everyone else.

At the end of the day, we all want the same thing: to be around loved ones, to have a place to sleep, to have a full belly, and to be warm/cool enough to sleep without having nightmares about life.
