Weight help: I am a 17 year old guy and I am having a little weight problem. - Help.com

I am a 17 year old guy and I am having a little weight problem.

Right now I weigh 242lbs and I am 6′1″. I lift weights (benchpress 200+) What should I do to shed off weight (30lbs). Last year I was able to lose 40lbs in 2.5 months. The reason for this is that I am going to have an enormous family reunion in the summer and there are going to be people that I have not seen for years there, so I basically just want to leave a good impression as “looks” are important in my family (brains are more important but anyway…) So what suggestions do you guys have.

If you are really serious about it then walking outdoors is great as long as the weather is not rain or snowstorm. If you walk a lot you can shed pounds quickly as I had a job once that required me to walk several miles, but in a building, per day and I went from 165 to 135 in about a month so try it as it will not only trim you down but will be a good health thing to do. hope this helps.

Thanks but I walk everyday to and from school as opposed to driving because I want to save some money.

How far is it to your school in miles? Maybe try a longer time on workouts like add ten minutes to it. Also eat until you are full no matter what. Even if you get hungry two hours later this should help some as I did this and lost more weight and can say I can eat a whole cake by myself and never gain weight because of the conditioning I did with my body. Hope this helps a little.

Lose it in water-weight. I’ve been trying a combination of Hydroxycut and Taraxatone.

But these are not good for you in the long-term. So the best thing would be to, exercise in more creative and vigorous ways and eat different foods.

work your core!!! you have to lose the extra before anything will be willing to tone, so changing your diet to healthier foods instead of less foods, taking multi-vitamans, and running…are basic steps.

if you are trying to lose weight, do it healthily. research as much as you can.
you can find a calculator that will work out how many calories you should be eating to lose weight but do it slowly, then you have a better chance of keeping the weight off.
try new healthy foods to see what you like and work a meal plan around the amount of calories you need. if you have un-healthy foods that you love, inconsiderate a small portion in your daily calorie allowance or have a naughty day once a week and have one of your favorite meals on that day.

cardio exercise is also really important to lose weight, start walking to places you’d drive or get a bus and try to increase the amount you do each week, but look on the net. there are loads of free sights with excersise and diet plans…
http://www.sparkpeople.com/ is a great one.

..oh and try to have fun too!

all the basics:eat healty and exercise. you can still eat “junk” every once in awhile, just limit it. don’t forget that muscle weighs more than fat.
