I’m writing a story and I was wondering if anyone had

a good story that they read in high school, that had a question on a character that didn’t have a right answer. Just opinions based on who was reading the story. Does that make sense?

Not sure, but you sparked my curiosity. Mind explaining a little more?

Like lets say a character did something in the book that was questionable. So a question on that character would be do you think that what they did was justified or not. So the answer would be an opinion of the reader and wouldn’t have a correct answer.

Hmm… I don’t think I have an opinion like that. When I read, I see it as if I was watching somebodies life, and I don’t judge people like that. I just accept that we all make mistakes. XD Sorry if that’s no help.

What’s your book about?

Oh well it doesn’t have to be your opinion it could have been an assignment that you had to do with a question the teacher picked. It doesn’t even have to be that question. My books about a teenage girl who gets a locket from her boyfriend on her birthday, catch is that the locket used to belong to the librarian at the school and sees it on her and goes crazy. She rips it off the girl and fights (verbally) with her. The principle gets involved and it turns out that the librarian has a mental problem (made up I think). Sorry about the not so great summary. Um I just need the book for a scene in the story.

Hmm… A book I read in High School… (I’m in High school now, shouldn’t be this hard. XD)
I’m reading Xenocide right now, it’s part of the Ender series… I’m not sure what I think about the characters though. Like I said, I don’t judge. :P

Well the not judging thing is a great characteristic to have.

I never thought so. Makes it hard to choose. Makes decisions harder.

I’ve been trying to write a book for a while, but almost hit a mental block after a while. I lose my inspiration and can’t continue writing and eventually drop it. Any ideas on how to do it right? What do you do?

That’s actual a lot like what I do. I’m like Queen of indecisive. My best writing is when I get inspired and I never know when I will and when I’m not and I try to write I end up hating what I wrote and I hit a mental block. A lot of my story’s start by me just sitting down when I get inspired and just writing. Then when it wears off you’ve got a pretty good place to start with a story/book. It’s not always the beginning though. If you drop something don’t completely get rid of it, just put it a side. Then when you feel like it you can take it out review it, change a few things, and continue. Also I find that when I’m trying to think of an idea for a book I come up with the worst things. Now that could be just me, but if you’re like that too don’t plan the story out. I know teachers tell you too but I found that makes it harder. If you let the story write itself it’s probably gonna be better and go together better.

That’s how I always thought it was. I’ve been looking into a new theory recently too: Writing the book backwards.
Start with the last chapter and write the book chapter by chapter, but going back, until you come to a satisfying conclusion, or beginning. It seems a lot of authors do that, but with the timeline instead of the story itself. They then go forward and add the bulk and detail.
I’ve still got all the stories I’ve ever tried to write, somewhere, I think. They are all very unrelated though. And my inspiration is always so different that I can’t continue from one of them. :(
I’ve never been able to plan stories though. XD

I haven’t either. People always tell me to make a web or planner and I get the worst ideas and stories when I do that. You could try that going backwards thing, it could work for you. I really just write a paragraph and then decide where I want it in the story. Then I figure out what the story’s about and just write whatever comes to mind as I write. I also do that where if I go back to something I wrote before I rewrite it. I do that with almost anything I write actually.

Yeah! I do that same thing! I try force myself to save my writings in the end though. They are good for remembering how I used to think and write. I re-read them much later and see all the changes. It makes me feel like I’m getting so much better at writing. :D
Do you still have your writings from childhood?

Yeah I have most of them. My family tells me that when I was really little before I could write I use to have notebooks and I would scribble things like I was writing even though I couldn’t yet. I remember that’s how I walked into a tree once. Sorry random. What is your favorite genre or topic to write about?

I never really have a genre. Usually just about the mind. Like, thoughts that people have, the way they think. All the psychological yet fiction type of thing. That’s just what comes out.
What about yours? It seems like you like to tell stories that are probable, but didn’t quite happen?

Uh no I had to plan the story I told you about. I’m more into writing about the parts of humanity people like to forget or pretend don’t exist. I don’t know if that makes sense.

Yeah, it makes sense. Kind of *the other side* of things, right?
What is your side then? I mean, what part of humanity do you right about that is forgotten?

Um kinda like twisting right with wrong… Uh ok let me try this again, you know all those supernatural movies and shows and how they represent a part of humanity but most of the time they use magic and monsters to sugar coat the bad part of humanity. That kind of stuff without the sugar coating, but not too harsh either.

Um… Yes, and no… I don’t watch many movies or tv… Anymore, at least. But I think I know what you mean. It sounds like it’s going to be pretty interesting! You should really finish one and get it published and everything!
I’ve been thinking about how you said to get the pieces and put them all together. I realized that when I get an idea, and instead of having my characters be the ones, I make character-less scenes. With merely figures as the people. And then I create my characters so that they fit in with what is going on.

That’ll most likely make the writing easier because to base an entire plot on a few characters is really hard but if you base the characters on the plot then they fit. I always do that, basing the story around the character and then I give up and just write the story and the character changes drastically. Oh and a better way to explain what I write is that I love to write about how the bad person isn’t really the bad person, like in books or movies we always see the complex side to the hero but never the villain. A lot of people don’t want to know why they killed someone, or what they go through to survive in their bad guy society. I hope I didn’t confuse you more. : ) Are you working on anything now?

That actually makes sense. And sounds awesome!
I’m not working on anything right now sadly… As strange as it seems, most of my inspiration comes when I’m going through depressive moods. Which hasn’t been coming as much lately. :D

Yeah it has something to do with it being a strong emotion or something. I’m actually tying to write a book about a girl who’s a criminal and she’s wanted for a murder she didn’t commit but she can’t get caught because she could be arrested for other things. Anyway her best friend Doyle is kidnapped by her ex because Doyle couldn’t pay his debt off. Her ex just hands him off to one of his guards or whatever, but the guard didn’t tell her ex any info on what he was gonna do after he had Doyle, so they have to go all around the world looking for Doyle. I haven’t gotten too far in the book but I’m hoping I’ll be able to stick with it.
