god help: I’m an atheist, and I’m tired of being “persecuted”! - Help.com

I’m an atheist, and I’m tired of being “persecuted”!

I don’t believe in the Christian god, n’or the Muslim god or the Hindu god. Not Zeus, Allah, Krishna, Yahweh, or Thor. I don’t believe in the flying spaghetti monster.

I’m sorry to all you religious people out there, that you aren’t able to convince me of your frankly ridiculous beliefs, but I just can’t shut off my brain long enough to believe something that on one page, tells me “thou shalt not murder”; and on the next page, tells me that if two people of the same gender sleep with one another, “then they should be taken to the gates of the city and stoned to death”. (and if you don’t want to admit they’re ridiculous, you obviously haven’t read your bible - but hey, if they weren’t ridiculous, you wouldn’t need faith, right?)

Listen, folks… I don’t mind if you want to be religious and all that, but do me a favor, ok?
Pick ONE of the following:
a) Follow the rules in your own bible. That way, if you really think this book is something that should be followed verbatim, you can be locked up with the rest of the psychopaths who believe there are gnomes in their underpants.
b) If you’re not going to follow every word in the bible, stop telling people that it is the “word of god”, and claiming we should all live our lives by it. If it’s not the word of god, then it’s just a rather gruesome story; in which case you should be able to respect my decision not to believe in it, and I’ll do the same with your decision TO believe in it.
c) Stop pretending to be persecuted. Seriously. You’re 90%+ of the country. NOBODY is persecuting you.
d) If you MUST insist that you’re being persecuted, stop ACTUALLY persecuting every other brand of theist (like Muslims) as well as non-theists (such as myself) - I’ve seen the polls indicating that over 70% of the country would NOT vote for a non-theist, EVEN if he was well qualified for the job over his competitor. You think YOU’RE persecuted? Hah! Atheists are the single most distrusted minority in the country, below black people, muslims, and homosexuals. (not that I think anyone should distrust those groups).

I look forward to a day when those who believe in an old book and those who don’t can be seen as equals.
I know this comes off as a rant, it kinda is, but I don’t really mean to be rude. I just have a little pent up frustration from being called a heathen time and time again for not partaking in the particular brand of BS that most people partake in. Much love to you all.

Hey, get over it. You have a legal right to not be tortured for your beliefs, but other people don’t have a legal obligation to vote for a non-theist if they don’t think a non-theist would make the kind of decisions they want to see made.

I have never heard of anyone being arrested for being an atheist, nor have I ever filled out a job application or school application that asked me to specify my religious beliefs. I’ve never been denied a mortgage, a loan, a hotel room, or anything else on that basis.

I’ve been through theist, atheist, and agnostic stages throughout my life, and never have I had my civil rights abridged for any one of those philosophies.

And if people say, “God bless you” when I sneeze, I just take that as an indication of their good will toward me, and I thank them.

Live and let live, my dear.

All i can say is…the circle countinues. Christians bash athiest ahtheists bash christians. I’m a christian, and i’m so angry of how some christians respond. But, then again, like on this site, if someone is asking christians for their advice, and atheists come and insult them; that angers me. (I just read a post amoment ago were someone did this.) The fact is its not gonna change there’s still gonna be “rouge” people who don’t respect the others’s believes.

Yeah…I did a report in class about atheist persecution and some kid opened his trap about “Christian persectution in America is bad too blah blah blah” and I was thinking SHUT. UP. I also read that over the past 30 years atheists are the only minority not to have mote positive views than 30 years ago. People associate us with immorality and criminal behavior.
