What should i pay, car insurance or phone?

I dont have car insurace right noe, have not had it for 2 months because i simpley have zero money. but i got a notice saying the registration will be revoked if i dont get it. I have enough money to pay eoither my phone bill or my car insurance this month. Which shoudl i pay? My phone is about to be turned off any day now. Its a mobile, and all i have. i am desperately trying to find a new job, and i need my phone for people to hopefully contact me. but if i got caught without insurance or reg, i would be in big trouble, wouldn’t I? What can i do? I am overdrafted $989 as is, to pay rent. I have tried sellign things, i borrowed money. social services have no help, but thank god for food stamps.

i really dont know what to do.

I’d say insurance. If you don’t and you get caught, you’ll end up paying way more in the long run. And you need your car to get to prospective job interviews! Do you have a house number they can reach you on? Or a number of a close friend? That way if they call she can say you’re not home but she’ll get you to call back asap, and then you can call them off a pay phone or off their phone when she tells you. And it saves the trouble and embarassment of saying you don’t have a phone.

maybe your boyfriend could set up the interview and just tell you when and where to be, pay insurance then try to get one of those prepaid phones I think they are about $20.00 and I know thats alot when your broke. good luck! you might could get a job at sonic (if you have those in your area) I worked their not to long age when my husband was laid off and I made really good money in tips. I had cash everyday, and they hired me on the spot.

Pay your car insurance, get pay as you go mobile and blanket text everyone with your new number.
If you don’t have insurance whats the worst that could happen? Exactly!!
If you miss a phone call whats the worst that can happen? Try calling them again!!

Voodoosandwic, don’t be so volatile. She clearly IS trying to get her life together, and doesn’t need advice as judgemental and unsensitive like yours to tell her to do so. One of the steps she is taking to put her life together is to ask us advice. And believe me, it is a valid question. I don’t know how long my brother drove around without car insurance. And he COULD afford it. He wasn’t that bothered. And a lot of people I know do it. And they are good, caring people. If it came down to a situation like that, you would start to think ‘well, what if I don’t get caught for the car insurance? I need a phone to make money’….in fairness, it’s hard to get a job when they can’t contact you.

Juliette, I’d say give them your boyfriend’s number. Ask him before you do though, and make sure he is prepared for any phone calls like that. Get him to say you are not home at the moment but if they give him their name and number he will pass it on and you will call back a.s.a.p. Then he can get that to you and you can use a pay phone, or even drop back in on the pretext you were passing by. Then you don’t even need to call.

And I do hope everything works out for you.

A random idea I had….Have you ever thought about getting into childcare yourself? Doing a short course? Then you’d have a job with the same hours as your child. And equally, you’d get discount where ever you end up working for her/him. Or you don’t actually need qualifications to become a teacher’s aid…is that what you call them? I am not sure. Teaching assistant or special needs assistant? I just thought the hours might suit you and though you might have to do a short course, it’s worth it in the long run, and it’s good pay.

What do you mean MothMan? I wasn’t freaking out. I just feel for the person. And what voodoosandwic said ( “get your life together, gees!”) is both uncaring and insulting. Help.com is about helping people, and not passing judgement. I don’t mind what you guys said, I actually laughed at it. We should always be able to laugh about things. But I don’t agree with being judgemental, insensitive and uncaring and flippant with comments like that!

Lecture over!

:o)

I know that MothMan. That has nothing at all to do with what I was saying. Nothing there which you said says it is ok to make offensive and flippant comments. The poster is in the act of getting their life together and looking for a job. Hence, do you really think it is appropriate to say ‘get your life together, gees!'’ ? I for one hope that if I ask for help and am in the process of doing something difficult like that, that I don’t have some insensitive person making such a snide and potentially hurtful comment. It wouldn’t hurt me, but maybe this poster was offended. She’s having a tough enough time as it is trying to get her life together, without others slating her about it.
