Decent intro to Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004

I was at the library a couple weeks ago, which rarely has any useful computer books on the shelves.  But on a lark I went looking thru the small computer section and came across “Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004 for Windows and Macintosh”.  It so happens I need to learn how to use Dreamweaver for a project at work, so I borrowed the book.  And while I haven’t finished it yet, I can say that it seems to be pretty decent.

Now if you’re some kind of CSS/HTML wiz this book isn’t for you.  But you’re probably not using Dreamweaver either–you probably code with a text editor instead.  For the rest of us this is a decent introduction to the capabilities of Dreamweaver.

What I like best about the book is the profusion of screenshots.  It walks you through the steps for performing common tasks in Dreamweaver, like setting up a new site or moving a layer around.

Again, not really an expert-level book.  Nor would I say it’s for the beginner either–you really need to have some comfort level with HTML and FTP to use the features in Dreamweaver.  It’s aimed squarely at us folks in the vast middle, and I think it does a pretty good job.  I certainly feel much more comfortable in Dreamweaver.

thats cool, consider for the future that while dreamweaver is more powerful, NVU (www.nvu.com) is also easy to learn. if you know how to use word, and know a little bit about html i think you can figure it out. nvu is COMPLETLY FREE! it is a bit messier that dreamweaver though. just trieng to get the word out. also, the gimp is a image editor comparable, or better than photoshop also free. any web author should check it out, at www.gimp.org
