1/3×5x4×6?

5×4=20

20×6 = 120

120/3 = 40

Get it?

1/3 means to take the total and divide it in three. the total, I assume is 100. so 100 divided by three is .33

.75 would be 3/4 pretend that you have money in your hand. If you had 75 cents, that is 3 quarters out of your 100(dollar).

the ” / ” means out of.

Anyway, I hope that part makes sense, if not skip it and forget it. do the multiplication first.

problem is: 1/3×5×4×6.

5 times 4 = ?

right, 20.

take the 20 and multiply by 6

20 times 6 = ?

gosh, no calculaotor, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, 120. duh, um I should have just done 2 time 6 then added the zero, too tired I guess.

anyway,

problem is: 1/3×5×4×6.

we just figured out that 5 X 4 X 6 = 120.

(you can get out some dimes. you’ll need 12 of them.)

since you are multiplying by 1/3 (which means the same thing as dividing by 3) that that means the total has to be split into 3 groups.

(If you don’t have 12 dimes, just draw three big circles on your page)

put 1 dime in each group. (or draw one dime)

(add them up, and your only at 30 cents, so keep going)

put another dime in each group

(now at 60 cents)

put another dime in each

(now at 90 cents)

put another dime per group

(now at 120, the whole thing)

look at each group

how many times dime you draw a dime? 4

so 120/3 equals 4.

I know it was long, but I hope it helped to make you understand…..It’s not really that hard, butsome people make it seem harder….I hope that I am not one of those people. :P

LOL I am off to bed. there is 40 cents in each group at the end, so 120/3 = 40

or 120 cents divided into 3 groups equals 40 cents in each group.

now it’s bugging me, thinking that I messed this person up worse.
darn, I learned it in another language, and I am trying to explain with money.

so here’s the short version
1/3×5×4×6.

5 X 4 = 20
20 X 6 = 120
120 divided by 3 = 40.

I guess that I am one of those people,LOL
:P
