I know this is gunna sound crappy and boring, but can you just peek in see if you know anything about this?

For no reason at all my laptop has stopped picking up my earphones. Even if they are plugged in the sound still comes out through the speakers on the actual laptop.
This started a few days ago quite suddenly and has continued on since. Even restarting makes no difference.
If I push the earphone adapter thingy in really hard and hold it there the sound sometimes comes through them. And occasionally it will come through the laptop and the earphones at the same time. There was also something the other day where if I put my laptop on mute the sound played through the earphones then but thats never happened since.
Does any one have any idea whats happened here or how I can get it back to normal?
Appreciate any help
Thanks
Tears x

Sounds silly, but are you sure it’s the right hole? mine has a headphone-shaped hole right next to the real headphone hole and i mess it up sometimes.

There’s the head phone one and the one with the symbol of the mic on it. Yeah it’s in the right one :P I did think of that at the time.

It sounds like the headphone jack on the laptop has a loose connection. If it’s still under warranty, call tech support and they should be able to tell you how to get it fixed.

That’s what I was going to say, something similar happened me with an mp3 player before and it was due to a loose jack.

yeah, hardware issue, no real advise for that. If you are technical you can open the latop and check the jacck, otherwise take it to the shop.

i agree with jcd but like even before you take the time to call up those annoying people just wiggle around the head phones in there and see if you get connection and if you get it in the right spot DONT wiggle it lol

I sounds like a hardware problem. Not much you can do if its a laptop since you probalbly dont want to break it

try these solutions(i’ll list them in the recommende order to try:(sorry this is so long but there are several things to try!

1. does the jack to the headphones fit into the jack loosley. I dont mean does it not plug in all the way, but are they loose and able to pull out. if so u need new headphones with a bigger jack. I know u said youve tried three headphones so this prob isnt the prob.

2. unplug and plug back in the headphones several time hard and fast, but not to hard cause you dont want to break the jack.

3.sometimes a computer can stop regognizing hardware, unplug then plug in the headphones then restart your computer and see if that works.

3. one possibility is that dust or some other gunk has found its way into the jack. your best bet would be to buy a can of a product called dust off which you can buy at office suppliy stores and blow it in the hole. just make sure the first time you use it to spray it once because sometimes slight evaration can come out.

4.Lastly you may need to reinstall the souncard driver for your laptop. Go to the manufactures web site and order one there. I recommend if you dont know how to reinstall this ask someone who does. If u need help let me know by a shoutout.

hopefully one of these will work

Try and plug the headphones into the “other headphone socket!” - sounds like you plugged them into the mic port instead of the headphone port….
