Can anyone help me with my friend issue…

okay so i have this friend and i ask her what she wants for her birthday cuz its tomorrow and this is what she says:
Hmm.
Besides a semi-functional family,
friends who actually give a ****
and enough weed to keep me high enough
to never have to deal with reality,
Absolutely nothing.

we’ve been friends for a long time.
im not always there for her cuz im with my boyfriend and plus me and my friend go to different schools.
plus i found out that she “liked” me cuz shes bi and all…which made me not want to hang out with her as much cuz it was awkward.
and welll idk what the **** to say to that.
she says she has friends who dont give a **** but what i dont understand is that she never even tries to talk to them or me. i think about not even being her friend anymore cuz all she does is complain and ***** at me about how we never talk anymore and how i never call her when she never even calls me. and even when i try to do something shes busy. she says ive moved on and ive changed…but really i think shes changed. she hardly goes to school anymore and shes always getting high…which i do to but still.
idk what to do…if i try to tell her anything shes gonna get mad and blame me for everything.

even my other friend tried to ask her and she said she didn’t want anything.

Different ages affect how to interpret things, I was just curious.

It sounds like she’s going through a rough time, that said though a lot of people exaggerate their “dysfunctional” family and what not, I know my fair share of people that have done it. Every family is different, most work OK enough though.

The weed thing sounds a bit worrying though. I smoke it a bit, and I know a hell of a lot of people who smoked it when they were your age but few people who would say that they want to get constantly stoned so they wouldn’t have to deal with reality. It sounds like she’s withdrawing from her friends and turning to weed as an escape, and that’s never good. If I were you I’d stick with her as a friend. Some of the most meaningful relationships I have now with people were made by helping people through difficult times, or by them helping me. It wasn’t easy at the time but it was well worth the effort.

oooh okays. makes sense.

yeah. i mean her mom drinks alot and her step dad is just there to take care of her sometimes. but other then that you know i see it as at least she has a home and shes not on the streets. her life could be a whole lot worse.

i wanna be her friend i just get tired of dealing with all her complaints.
shes really smart to and she hardly goes to school now.
i’d hang out with her more to but the whole her liking me thing just kinda bothered me but im kinda over it.
and she had told my friend and her step brother that she wanted to get me drunk so she could do stuff to me.
and she says im a bad friend….so thats why i was kinda trying to stay away from her.

im just not sure what to tell her you know?
no matter what i tell her tho shes gonna get upset.

I can see how that gets a bit awkward, it’s good that your over it, or at least kind of over it anyway though. It’s always difficult to know the right thing to say, the way I always looked at it though is even if you say the wrong thing, she may get upset but she’ll get over it. And then you have another chance to say the right thing again. It’s very unlikely that you’ll unintentionally say anything that will make her not speak to you again anyway.

As far as the school issue goes, I don’t really have any idea how you can do anything about that. I live in Ireland, if you stop going to school here the school hounds you and gets authorities involved if needs be so it was never really a problem here.

yeeah. i dont even know if she still likes me anymore. hopefully not.
yeeah true.
this whole thing is over myspace so im typin this long thought out message.
besides someone has to tell her something.

well i moved in another part of town so i had to go to a different school.
i tried to get a transfer to the one she was going to but they didn’t let me.
its not that far. only a few miles away.
that really isn’t a big issue. if anything i like going to different schools then her.
i dont get so tired of her as much.

thats cooool. haha whats your name anyways?
oh and i see your studying psychology?
i took this one test at school and it had said i should be a psychotherapist…which i thought was interesting.

I hope it works out OK with the girl anyway.

I’m Fergal. Psychology is awesome, I study computers as well though which is equally awesome. I’m quite the geek :) I wouldn’t read much into those tests though, I was always very suspect of them. Do what your interested in, not what a test tells you what you should become!

I also just read your bands post, Why So Steve speaks the truth, MGMT are in fact fantastic. I’m listening to them at the minute :)
