Can PC DVD drives play any type of DVD format? e.g i am a UK resident and want to order some DVDs off the internet that are NTSC format, the european format is PAL.

Yeah then can. It’s the codec of the player that decodes the format.

As far as I know fractal.scatter is right. You may need to download an audio or video codec onto your PC but it’s a simple process. I’m 90% sure that that is the case anyway.

No. You don’t have PAL and NTSC monitors. They are just monitors. The codec of the media player decodes the signal from the optical drive. DVD players usually only have the one codec present; hence the incompatability.

A DVD drive will read both NTSC and PAL and as long as the codec is installed (which it probably already is if you’ve watched movies before), then it will play fine.

i will :) well, you may not agree :P “Hogan knows Best” is being aired on a channel called TMF in the UK which i think is owned by MTV, satalite TV isnt all that common over here so we dont all get MTV, cable tv is also rare. anyway, i cant see any dvd’s anywhere over here in the uk. ive tried watching the episodes online on MTV’s website but it says the copyright restricts the videos being played outside of the US :( i thought about downloading them from thepiratebay but thats against the law, so i figured the only place im gonna get them is on amazon.com from a US shop.
