Erm it depends on how you want to do it. I am currently planning a Gap year or two and I am trying to put aside a couple of thousand pounds, but I know others that have done it for less.

Websites like sta are good as they specialise in student travel and can give you an idea of costs if you fly everywhere.

A little tip, my friend went to a country that she could speak the language of first, such as America or Canda so she could adapt to travelling before the encountering the language barriers, she also started far away from home so as her trip went on she worked her way back home rather than moving further away from home. Apparently it helped that ehen she was tired homesick and running out of money she was on the homestretch as it were.

Let me know how it goes
