This was written for me and my husband after our motorcycle accident and was published in a couple for biker magazines.
I always post this and send it out in emails every spring. Please, when you are on the road, watch out for us bikers.
You Didn’t See Me
I saw you; hug your purse closer in the grocery store line
But you didn’t see me, put an extra $10.00 in the collection plate on Sunday.
I saw you; pull your child closer when we passed each other in the sidewalk
But you didn’t see me, Playing Santa at the local mall
I saw you; change your mind about going into the restaurant
But you didn’t see me, attending meetings to raise money for the hurricane relief.
I saw you, roll up your window and shake your head as I rode by
But you didn’t see me, driving behind you when you flicked your cigarette butt out of the car window.
I saw you, frown at me when I smiled at your children
But you didn’t’ see me, when I took time off work to take toys to the homeless.
I saw you, stare at my longhair
But you didn’t see me, and my friends cut 10” off for Locks of Love.
I saw you; roll your eyes at our leather and gloves
But you didn’t see me, and my brothers donate our old ones to those that had none.
I saw you; look in fright at my tattoos
But you didn’t see me, cry when my children were born and had their names written over and in my heart.
I saw you, change lanes when rushing off to go somewhere
But you didn’t see me, going home to be with my family.
I saw you, complain about how loud and noisy our bikes can be
But you didn’t see me, when you were changing your CD and drifted into my lane.
I saw you, yelling at your kids in the car
But you didn’t’ see me, pat my child’s hand knowing he was safe behind me
I saw you, reading a newspaper or a map as you drove down the road
But you didn’t see me, squeeze my wife’s leg when she told me to take the next turn.
I saw you, race down the road in the rain
But you didn’t see, getting soaked to the skin so my son could have the car for a date.
I saw you; run the yellow light just to save a few minutes of time
But you didn’t see me, as I was trying to turn right.
I saw you, cut me off because you needed to be in the lane I was in
But you didn’t see me, leave the road.
I saw you, waiting impatiently for my friends to go pass
But you didn’t’ see me,
I wasn’t there.
I saw you go home to your family
But you didn’t see me the day you cut me off
I was just a biker…….with friends and family
But you didn’t see me.

Thanks for that. We don’t even know who wrote it. The editor of one of the magazines does but he was to promise not to tell anyone.

Your welcome. It really means a lot to us.
There is a video for it too. I have it on my MySpace page but the code I have for it there doesn’t work here.

Wow. Just wow. I wish I could watch youtube.
It is so powerful and wow… Its all I can really say.
I’ve already read/seen this on your myspace and on curves =]
And of course it’s awesome and very touching.
How are you and uncle T doing? Did Pam take him for the appt? I was supposed to take mom to meet a lawyer but she had Cyndi do it instead, so I ended up staying home.
That is really sad. My son just bought his first motorsycle and he is 23. We constatly tell him to watch the other drivers (in cars) because most motorcycle accidents occur do to poor drivers. We didn’t want him to buy one but he wanted one since 18. We asked him to give it up for him family, I guess we will have to wait and see.
I’m not a biker myself, but have many friends who are and I’d love to share this if you don’t mind. It really says a lot, and it’s quite meaningful. Best of luck to you and your husband in all you do. =D
You can tell that this is from the heart. It’s bad how trageties have to come to us, but they do make us stronger.
Yes, I too will be sharing this with alot of people that I know who love their bikes. I alway stress, you can never be too careful.
A local bikers group are a really nice bunch. Some work in our local food bank, others have raised money for the women’s shelter (for battered women and children) and donated their locks for wigs for cancer. They can’t be judged on appearance, neither can anybody else. I know plenty on well dressed people that aren’t anywhere near as nice as the bikers that I know.
Sorry that you have had such a hard time, Jules. May peace and healing be yours.

Please ask your son to take the defensive riders course. It is a great thing for new riders to do. My hubby, even after all the years he has been riding still takes it now and then.

Yeah, Pam took him. I think they were able to have a real good talk about what is going on with her. Your mom came over and I helped her with the stuff she needed filled out online. You just can’t get a break to get out of the house can you, lol The Explorer had to have a new radiator. They should have it done today.
To Everyone that wished me well, thank you very much. It really means a lot to me. I am not doing all that bad and I certainly am not brave, lol I am just doing what any of you would do if you were in the same position, dealing with it day to day. That is all any one can do.
Anyone that wants to share this, please do. The more people that see it the better. I know motorcycles are very hard to see. That is what the man that hit us said, he never saw us. With the way they are making the new cars soundproof now they are getting hard to hear. All I ask is that everyone just pay a little closer attention when you are driving. You might just save a life.
wow thats beautifully written. im really glad you shared it with us jules thank you.
very well written. i hope all who drink and drive could read this. really powerful.
Here is hoping that someday you’ll get your “knees back in the breeze”. God bless Jules.
Thanks all! I have been back on a bike once since the wreck. I still love riding! It won’t be long until we can get another bike!
Wow. Very powerful. Thanks for posting it. I’m so sorry to hear about it though… =(
Naw, don’t be sorry. If it had not happened the way it did I know I would have missed out on meeting a lot of great people, you included.
wow thats really good! i love this one, i will share it. i wish everyone could be seen as a real person, just like everyone else with lifes and feelings the world would be a better place

I pray for the same thing just about every night. Thanks for reading it and even more thanks for sharing it!
Very beautiful. I know now every time I see a motorcycle on the road these words will be in my mind. Thank you for sharing and for changing my perception.

Thank you for seeing it that way! If even one rider can be saved then I will feel like I have done something right for a change.
