Understanding Suicide.

Last week in school I found out that I had to write a speech and that the topic was completely up to me. I decided to write my speech about suicide because unfortunately it is a subject that affects my life. I started writing, not fully understand how important the speech had become to me. About halfway through I realized that I really didn’t understand anything about my topic. Sure, I had a bunch of numbers and statistics fitted in with a some common reasons like depression, but that didn’t seem like enough. I don’t want to just write another halfhearted speech about something I don’t fully understand, I chose this subject because it’s something that truely matters to me. So, if anyone has gone through a period where they were thinking about suicide, has any opinions, thoughts, comments, ideas on what some of the content of my speech should be, or really just knows anything about it, I’d really appreciate if you could share them with me. Thanks to everyone who bothered reading this and took the time comment =]

dear i guess i’d write about suicide in real life.. that the mojority of people judge them , but those who loose someone who commits suicide thinks about it in a different way.. those can really feel that you can’t judge suicidic people.. and might write about a site which help people who feel like that :)

friendlyheart made a very good point when she said that if you lose someone to suicide you begin to see it in a new light.

I haven’t been through any suicidal phases in my life, but a man that I admired commit suicide. You really do have a new way of viewing suicide after someone you love commits it. It’s not fun for anyone, and you really feel sorry for not only the family and friends of the victim but the victim themselves. Suicide isn’t just a statistic, it’s a very real form of death that occurs every day and brings pain to families and friends all over the world.

I know I sound morbid, but this is my own personal insight into suicide. I hope I helped, even if only a little bit.

Well, it’s a complex topic for sure. You might try writing about not so well known reasons for it, like if old people finally do themselves in because of their ill health or medical bills they can’t pay. I’m sure that happens more than we might think. Just different reasons that different people might become attracted to suicide, because I think it’s something we tend to only associate with high schoolers and college kids, but what about 40 year olds, or widows or hell, even criminals? I don’t know what message you’re trying to get across, either pro or con or neither, but you could make statements and find examples to support the merits of suicide and/or when it’s a bad idea…. there’s tons of places you could take it, but not sure what you’re trying to say about the topic really. Ask yourself why this topic really matters to you and maybe you’ll answer some of your own questions… hope that helped some, good luck!

i would talk about how it affects their families, reasons for committing, and maybe real life cases of suicide.
