Gaining a whole new family is really scarey… but trust me it is a positive thing too. I am a foster carer… i have a lovely eight year old son and have fostered many other children over the last 12 years. My parents also foster and have looked after over 60 children. Each and every one of these children have been special to us just as you will be to your new family. No one will make any decisions without talking to you first… and if you don’t feel like your opinions, wishes or worries are being listened to then ask to speak to an advocate or a children’s guardian… both of these people are employed to “act” on your behalf. Adoption tends to be a long process… you won’t be taken from your current family and put with a new family without lots of visits first… a chance to get to know your new family. Write down your worries or any questions you may have and get your new family to read what you have written. I bet there will be nothing on your list that your new family haven’t already thought about.

My son has been with me for 17 months now… he’s settled into a new family, a new area, a new school and i can’t remember what it was like before he came to live with us. He’ll be with me until he’s old enough to live on his own… 35 according to him…lol… but in reality until he is at least 18. I’m sure we will have our ups and downs just like i did with my two older biological children but i’m really blessed as i get to spend every day with him and enjoy every minute of it.

I hope it goes well for you… Remember…. Your new family have chosen you… You are so special… They will love you for who you are.

I was put in foster care 2 nights ago because the Social services think that my mum is mental. My mum just went a bit angry because there was a policeman in my house and my mum doesn’t like having men in the house because of past experience. I might not be at home for Christmas and that is my biggest dread. Please help me.
