Cutting up a song and piecing select pieces together

My friends were joking around one day and recorded their insanity. It’s in one large file and I was wondering if there was a way I could chop that up, take the pieces that were actually playing at, and then combine them to create the entire song.

I know I’ll have to do a lot of careful piecing if I want it to flow together, but I was just curious if there was a program that could help me with that.
