Language evolves over time just as music, clothes and culture do, so, yes, people did talk and write differently. But also remember that Shakespeare (1564-1616) was a poet, and Romeo And Juliet is a romantic and poetic play, so some of the language used will be more poetic than perhaps everyday speech.

Just to see how much language has changed over the years take a look at the works of Geoffrey Chaucer (1343-1400 - The Canterbury Tales) - not in the modern translation. 14th Century “English” bears little resemblance to modern English, and I doubt that if Chaucer were to suddenly appear in Lonodon in the 21st century he would understand what anyone said to him.

A hundred years ago the English language wasn’t all that different to what it is now. That’s because of the mass media, but things still change.

Anyway, enjoy the Shakespeare.
