My USB ports on my laptop do not work?

?!What should I do?

This message pops up whenever I plug anything into my usb ports such as my mouse:
“One of the USB devices attached to this computer
has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.”

I have 4 USB Root Hubs and none of them work.
It is listed as an Unknown USB Device if I plug something like my mouse into the ports. I can use my mouse, my printer, my usb, camera, or anything i PUT INTO THE PORTS. wOw. im truly frustrated and I will think you are magical if you could solve my problem…..and very very grateful.

I have a Toshiba Windows Vista computer and its about 2 yrs old….would the drivers be deteriorating now and i need to replace them or something?? Or does it have something to do with the motherboard?

I have had this problem for a while now, and at the moment I have to use my touchpad on my computer (its the moving synaptics pointing device thingy) Also I can stick headphones in my laptop and it will work just fine.

***Also sometimes when im in my firefox browser this message pops up:: (if this might have anything to do with it) :\

ASSERT in LSP
firefox.exe
Assert in LSP
g_socket_data.Lookup(s) == 0
capture\lsp\nolsp\wsp_patches.cpp:1313

The only things i have changed lately are the appearance of my preference screen colors. I have not downloaded anything new.

PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME…
also, i do have usb port controllers

Do a system restore to a date before this happened. If you have a vista disk,
which I doubt, because microsuc is useless, you could do a system repair.
You should also have a restore on a partition, that you can restore the lap.

Unplug all your USB devices
Run the following command - devmgmt.msc
Go to the USB section and uninstall all of the USB devices
Reboot - it will install the devices it finds.
Reboot again.
If that does not work, go to http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/ta…
and see if there are updated drivers for your machine.
