How does CS Source Ban?

Recently, I BitTorrented CSS for my Windows computer. Loving it, but I’m wondering how the VAC ban system work. What exactly is being added to a ban-list: IP, mac-address, system info? I’m not using Steam as I did crack my version from the .iso of CSS.
