40GB would be enough hard drive space but how it would operate depends more on the CPU and RAM speed. It is possible though, and you would need to unistall 98 I beleive before installing XP

no you just click on the option that reformats it, and you have XP and not 98

you can put the xp cd in drive and follow the setup . in setup there is an option that you can choose to upgrade your win 98 to xp or choose to do a fresh install

Thanks for the replies but if the upgrade is chosen will this completely wipe the 98 and all its contents from the hard drive?
A full format is needed for a new xp install and other programs as has a 40 gig hard drive.
Thanks
