The Help dot com Anti-Screamer group.

OK, just to explain what a screamer is, it’s when you are shown a video or picture of something, and are abruptly interrupted by a disturbing image accompanied by a high-pitched scream. Usually this image is of a scary face, such as a ghost, monster, etc. The scream is often very loud.

Oftentimes you’ll be asked, “What’s wrong with this picture?” You’ll look carefully for about 30 seconds. Suddenly, the face will pop up (usually Regan MacNeil), etc. This can be very scary, especially for younger viewers; the first time I saw one was when I was 9; I couldn’t sleep well for several nights.

Here are some steps you can use to avoid them:

1. Don’t watch videos that have themes along the lines of “Find the differences in the pictures” or “Find the hidden object”.

2. Check the length of the video. A video under a minute is often a screamer.

3. Check the star rating. A rating under 3 stars is often suggestive of a screamer.

4. Pause the video in the beginning and read the comments. Comments like “omg that was scary!!!!1″ is a good indication of a bad video.

5. If your friend makes you watch a video and stands behind you, DO NOT WATCH IT. TURN OFF THE VOLUME AND LEAVE.

6. Videos that ask you to look more closely or raise the volume are screamers.

If you have been scared by a screamer and hate them, leave a comment! Describe the experience if you want to. Honestly, I hate them, and I wanted to post this.

Famous screamers to avoid:

* “What’s Wrong With This Picture?”
* “Say Those Three Words”
* “The Maze Game”
* “Kittens Playing”
* “Optical Illusions”

Yes, I can patently recall watching some of those videos recommended by some of inhabitants of this website. I’ll just say that there were a few that jolted me.

My father showed me the one where you stare at the kitchen or dining room and that black and white face the her hands to her face with a scream. The one with the colored eyes that make it look like she has no eyeballs. Well i need to know who she was. like her actual name. i was 7 when he showed me this. Everyday i am on the internet… i get afraid that she will pop up while i was minding my own business. that screamer is so hard to forget… that last month i had a dream with that face pop up and played a scream i could actually hear in my dream and i freaked out and woke up. i tell you these screamers are funny but scary. i do not like them.

Yeah, here’s the thing… it’s just not funny. It’s simply annoying. Now every time I watch a video I have to pause it, lower the volume, and read the comments. Some kids (myself NOT included) can actually develop emotional scars after watching them. Although it’s not common, I just don’t find screamers entertaining at all, and I never really “laugh” about them. You fail.

Wow, this list is pretty good. But there are a few things missing. Now a days, anything can be a screamer. I run into one almost every day now, because of how rampant they run, but I’ve grown smart to know when it is one. Youtube is loaded with them, and I always pause the video before it even hits 1 second, and look through the comments. If there aren’t comments, I don’t watch it.
Like with Riccofox9, that was my first ever one. But I didn’t get the shock, because the speakers were busted and I looked away as it happened. Only way I know that it was bad was because of the look on my uncle’s face when he called me for dinner. The only two that have ever really shocked me to the point of crying were Where’s Waldo on eBaums, and this Optical Illusions one, I think by Wintrowwd.

Where’s Waldo has actually pretty much damaged me. I’m paranoid of almost everything I watch on the ‘net now because of it. I refuse to watch Exorcist, because we have the version where that face pops up like every 5 seconds during the movie. I saw it nearly 6 years ago, and it still scares me. (Yeah, some people will think that’s pathetic, but I was kinda messed up in the head when I saw it.)
People don’t even know when I’m scared from them, because I don’t scream or jump. I lock up and can’t move, so they think I’m completely fine with them…
As well as being made to cry, only two made me laugh, even if I was still shaken;
“Say It!” aka “Love Poem For Your Mate” (I think that might be the “Say Those Three Words” mentioned above), and “Jerry and The Closet”. (The latter can be found on NewGrounds, former can be found almost anywhere)

Sadly, I’m the only one in my family who get scared in the least by them. Not even my younger brother gets scared like I do. He just closes out when it happens, shrugs, and says “Can’t watch that again ’cause it’s scary.” He’s even described several that I haven’t seen to me.

Once, last school year, I had to leave class because my teacher started playing them one after the other, starting with Where’s Waldo. The school counsler couldn’t even understand why I was in tears, shaking, asking to stay in his office until class was over. I’m ashamed of how I am with them, and I’m even contemplating seeing a therapist about it, because of how my brain is. (I’ve adapted myself to subliminality. If there’s a picture that will pop up in a video for even a milisecond, I will consciously see it, and can remember it in exact detail, weeks later. When I see a screamer, my brain locks the picture into my mind and won’t let go. I can still see the image from the last one I saw, 5 days ago.)

A lot of people will hear my story and call me a wuss, or call me stupid and tell me to get over it ’cause it’s only a picture, and they weren’t scared. But not everyone can do that so easily. Some people just can’t forget the fright they got, and almost everyone perfectly remembers their first one, still getting chills when they replay the video in their memories.

Uhm, I just noticed I’ve been typing a whole lot of stuff. Sorry to take up your time, but I stumbled onto this page while looking for tips on how to avoid them, and I ended up commenting…
