OK, just to explain what a screamer is, it’s when you are shown a video or picture of something, and are abruptly interrupted by a disturbing image accompanied by a high-pitched scream. Usually this image is of a scary face, such as a ghost, monster, etc. The scream is often very loud.
Oftentimes you’ll be asked, “What’s wrong with this picture?” You’ll look carefully for about 30 seconds. Suddenly, the face will pop up (usually Regan MacNeil), etc. This can be very scary, especially for younger viewers; the first time I saw one was when I was 9; I couldn’t sleep well for several nights.
Here are some steps you can use to avoid them:
1. Don’t watch videos that have themes along the lines of “Find the differences in the pictures” or “Find the hidden object”.
2. Check the length of the video. A video under a minute is often a screamer.
3. Check the star rating. A rating under 3 stars is often suggestive of a screamer.
4. Pause the video in the beginning and read the comments. Comments like “omg that was scary!!!!1″ is a good indication of a bad video.
5. If your friend makes you watch a video and stands behind you, DO NOT WATCH IT. TURN OFF THE VOLUME AND LEAVE.
6. Videos that ask you to look more closely or raise the volume are screamers.
If you have been scared by a screamer and hate them, leave a comment! Describe the experience if you want to. Honestly, I hate them, and I wanted to post this.
Famous screamers to avoid:
* “What’s Wrong With This Picture?”
* “Say Those Three Words”
* “The Maze Game”
* “Kittens Playing”
* “Optical Illusions”
