Anyone who knows any greek stories, myths, and/or legends / or if you’re a good writer…

I am writing a research paper on the difference between Machiavellian and Athenian priciples. My problem is I have no story about Athena that backs up the M. principle of “Commit a cruel act quickly and show only kindness thereafter” other than the Arachne story, but even that is weak. Anyone have any ideas?

Also, if you have a fav. Athena story, care to share?

And, lastly, and definitely least, would anyone mind critiquing my intro? I’m a freshman in high school, so be kind. I know its a bit choppy.

There was once a man called Machiavelli who lived in the late 1400’s and early 1500’s. During his time and for ours, Machiavelli advertised his cynical view of human nature and human rule through his book ‘The Prince’. On the other hand (That trans. doesn’t fit), there is a Greek goddess named Athena. She believes in the kind nature of humans and fair, honest rule. (Choppy) => Machiavelli and Athena are very different and have contrasting views. While Machiavelli never got the chance to enact on his, his principles can be seen throughout modern and timeless politics. Athena, however, had many chances to make real the principles she taught, with a good response (How can I change that wording?). While these two may seem opposite in character, there are actually things they might agree on, yet on the majority of issues they differ (Another phrasing- While these two may seem opposite in character and differ on the majority of the principles, there are actually some things they might agree on)

I know it’s a bit short, and just ignore the notes throughout, it’s just a rough draft.

Thanks!

‘On the other hand’ to ‘For example’ or ‘for one’

‘got the chance to enact on his, his principles can be seen throughout modern and timeless politics’

Got the chance to enact on his principles, as can be seen throughout..’ (Doubleing up the ‘his’ damages the flow)

‘however, had many chances to make real the principles she taught, with a good response ‘

try ‘had many OPPORTUNITIES to make a reality the principles she taught, which was greeted with good response.’

Dont let me change your mind: i did english language and have some odd views.

A key point for athens is that they felt the need to give the city its own goddess in the firstplace, and tehn also give her dominon over Olive Oil, Greeces most famous commodity.

my fav for Athena is simply her quote ‘Wrong must not win by technicalities’

ALso, if your after another ‘crule and kindness’ storie, there is a simular case wherby she caused a weaver to hang herself because she was as good as Athena was, but Athena took pity at the last moent and turned her into a spider instead, so she could weave forever.

Yeah, that’s the Arachne story. It fits with all the “In her fury, Athene…” cruel, kindness being the turning her into a spider. But, I don’t thinks it’s definitive enough.
