DOG help: I bought an English Bulldog from someone. - Help.com

This post left anonymously

I bought an English Bulldog from someone.

He is two years old and well trained. After having him here a couple days he seems to get aggressive with me. He will occasionally growl and bark at me, but my wife and kids seem to have no problems. Is he trying to figure out the pecking order in the house? What steps should I take? I hope not to return him, but my family comes first.

Hmm it could be that you remind him of someone that abused him in the past. It happened to me an my cat.

Maybe he is an alpha dog.. You know, the type who want to dominate. He sees you as an opponent. SOme dogs have to be pack leaders by nature and he thinks that you are the pack leader here.

Bribery through food and chew toys would work on most dogs.

Maybe it’s your approach. When you approach a dog who is not your friend yet, reach out your hand, palm facing up…like asking for a dance from a girl. Let the dog smell you and during this time, don’t show any signs of fear nor hesitation.

My aunt’s dog hates me. The evil dog growls, snarles and barks at me. They say it’s because the dog sensed my fear.

If I’ll have time today, I’ll research about it and give you a link. I’m making no promises here. I think I’ll be busy today.
