Every day I get super tired around 3pm and stay that way until around 9 pm. - Help.com

Every day I get super tired around 3pm and stay that way until around 9 pm.

Sometimes I fall asleep. Anyone know a possible reason or solution for this?
I also get really cold around this time too. It’s like my body has decided it wants to take a siesta for the early evening.

I don’t do too much physical activity. I might go to the gym once a week. I would go more but it winds up taking up a lot of my time usually. Anyway, during that time I don’t have trouble breathing. I am usually wide awake from 10pm - 3am whether I want to be or not.
A lot of this somewhat stems from the fact that I am a student with a different schedule each day, and sometimes I am up late finishing projects at the last minute. However, the afternoon has always been a low point in my circadian rhythm, including when I worked a regular shift. I remember when I was in high school I would feel this way immediately after lunch hour.

how many hours of sleep do you get a night? if you don’t get enough or you get too much sleep that would probaly be why you are tired.

well, I usually get about 8 hours. I sometimes go a couple days with as little as 5, but then make it up later. Yesterday I slept from 4pm to 9pm, then this morning from 3am to about 10am. I just spent the last few hours (3-7) trying very hard not to fall asleep. I had a cup of tea, a bowl of cereal, and went for a drive. Seems to have worked only I still feel very tired. It’s hard to concentrate like this. I am going to be cursing the gods if I fail to sleep by midnight tonight after forcing myself to stay awake.

A side note regarding the hours of sleep thing: I only seem to sleep more than 8 when I have been deprived. If I get less than 8 I feel tired. 8 seems to be the number for me. But no matter how many hours I get I always seem to feel tired when I wake up in the morning.

It could be that you are badly dehydrated. DRINK LOTS of WATER.
If that does not work maybe you need a vitamine with IRON in it.
How much sleep are you getting? Make sure to get 8 hours go to bed before
midnight.

If those 3 main factors dont help then you may need a doctor.

Well its summer and I’m working alternating 12 hour shifts now. So when I’m tired its pretty much expected. I don’t have that problem anymore now. I don’t know that I’ll ever have a normal rhythm, but I suppose it doesn’t really matter if I’m going to work shift.

My mother gets tired everyday after work making her sleep on the couch after cooking dinner. I am a little concerned because it has been going on for years and she says herself after doing exercise as well she feels very tired for like 2-3 days like her age is catching up on her or something. She is 50 years old. She keeps healthy eating wise and sleeps very early all the time since she gets tired all the time after work. Please let me know if this is normal or if its her age and what has to be done.

Jayna, only a doctor will be able to tell you or your mother what is normal for her.

Activities that prevent you from being tired:
Stretching/Yoga(Morning is best, 15 to 20 mins can do)
Then to Meditation (optional, it keeps me in tune, 10 mins-however long)
A decent night sleep (9 hours for me)
Healthy diet
Ulterior factors that keep you motivated (girlfriend, music, friends)

Look up more efficient ways of sleeping, getting more REM processes while sleeping. While lying down, getting ready to go to sleep, cross your arms so they touch your shoulders. That gets REM going faster (don’t know why though, but it does work)

Keeping awake and energized is mostly a matter of mindset. Keep positive and take care of your body

I’m not that old yet. But worked shift last summer. My body does not adjust well to alternating sleep schedules. I don’t have that particular sleep problem anymore. I figure it may have been a combination of stress, a bad circadian rhythm, and also maybe I was having too much carbs in the afternoon. I often find carbs make me tired if I have too much.
