anxiety help: I’ve done quite a few drugs in my day. - Help.com

I’ve done quite a few drugs in my day.

I am 22 and male. This is what I have done:
Marijuana
Cocaine
Ecstasy 5 times
Methamphetamine 6 separate 3 day binges
Acid once
GBL large amounts over periods of 3-4 days

I have made the decision to quit doing drugs because when I did acid I had a great time- and it was pointless and unfulfilling. I realized that sobriety and living life was more fun than spending it in happy blips with hang overs in between.

Then I did more GBL.

The thing is, as far as drugs go, GBL was one of the more harmless appearing things. I did a regular weekend dosing every few hours. Now I haven’t slept in 3 days. I try to lay down, my body feels tired, it is difficult to move, I started seeing flashing lights for a little bit this morning. I practice regular meditation, it is usually very easy for me to sleep. Now not so much.

That is the first problem.

The second problem is that I have lived with an OCD roommate going on a year. I do not mean OCD like he cleans a lot, I mean OCD as in he is clinically diagnosed. He is very intelligent, and literally has no emotions. If you’ve read the book the curious incident of the dog in the nighttime I imagine that is what life is like for him. He has become a good friend of mine, but given that I work from home and have very little contact with the outside world lately and he is my only interaction. I suddenly have social anxiety. I have NEVER had this before. I love people… or I used to. For some reason I have begun to fear them, sometimes even the outside world. I can’t even make a phone call I need to make right now.

What is this?
Is it legal for me to go to a doctor and say these things?
What should I do?

I used to do loads of drugs, but quit squillions of years ago but I really want to know what GBL is?

I think it is time for you to pack it in, it can get a lot worse, don’t go down that line please. I don’t know where you live so don’t know what the health system is like there. Here in Scotland you would get loads of help legally and medically.

Have you saw a film called ‘Requiem For A Dream’? If you have, has it not put you off yet. I know loads of people don’t get the bad stuff, but I think you, like me, is going to get it.

I love the book ‘The Curious Incident of The Dog in The Nightime’. Your compassion for your roommate is commendable, but I think you should concentrate on your own problems first then worry about his.

GBL is a pre-metabolized form of GHB (causes euphoria and intoxication). It is also nearly impossible to measure the dosage of as it comes in widely varying concentrations both in salt and liquid forms. Pretty easy to OD on the stuff. If you are used to taking x amount, and this next batch just happens to be double-strength, not terribly difficult to slip unconcious and stop breathing.

Doctor-Patient Confidentiality protects you unless the doctor believes that a) You are a danger to yourself, or b) You are a danger to others. If you are selling drugs to little kids, the doc can report you, if you are using drugs recreationally the doc cannot report you. However, if you are using large quantities of drugs regularly, and the doc thinks this relates to a mental health issue, and believes that the regular and heavy use of drugs may lead to OD/Suicide, the doc CAN report you.

I’d say to first broaden your social horizon. Humans are social creatures, if your only social input is a person with a mental health issue, it is really not surprising at all that you are beginning to develop a mental health issue. Stay friends with the guy, but make sure you have regular social contact with healthy persons as well. Second, if this doesn’t seem to cut it. Definitely get help. So long as you do not portray your drug use to be a danger to yourself or others, you can talk with a doc or a psychiatrist without fear.

GBL not a salt, it is a liquid that comes in 1 concentration 99.97% purity directly from chemical manufacturers. The dosing is easy… it’s the effects that have changed. Generally people stop breathing when they mix it with alcohol.

I live in the good ‘ol USA. Where the laws suck.
