Or, um lack there of.
I’m not a normal sixteen year old, i’m extremely quiet, i don’t have a ton of friends and I don’t really put myself out there.
So junior prom rolls around, and it’s no surprise that to me that i’m not going.
I would ask someone myself, but I don’t even have anyone in mind that i’m remotely interested in… and if i don’t have anyone in mind, clearly no one would have me in mind.
Everyone tells me my standards are too high, and that I need to lower them to fit a normal human being, I’ll laugh and agree, but i know i’m just using that as an excuse for not having even kissed a guy before.
I mean… I sure as hell don’t think i’m hideous, i’m not fat, I have clear skin… attractiveness shouldn’t have anything to do with finding someone your compatible with… or it shouldn’t be the whole package.
So what do I need to do? How do I get someone to see me for who I am? Should I just go through highschool without ever being in a relationship, and wait for college?
Any advice is appreciated.

Where were you?

I think you are perfect just the way you are, bfp. XOXOXOXO
Consider yourself kissed!
Just be yourself and dont look for it, as it will fall in your lap..
You shouldn’t have to feel like you need to be in a relationship to be noticed for who you are, simply
talking to people more is enough for someone to know more and more about you, or joining
a club or whatever, point is that you have to start talking and being more involved with people.
I’m a pretty shy person myself and I find that even going out with a few close friends has gotten
me involved with a lot of other great people. If you can’t find someone to go to the prom with
then just go with your friends and dance! There could be someone there who eyes you out on the
floor!
Fog is never clear. There may be others like you (quiet/shy) in the corner wishing you would notice them. Standards are fine but they shouldn’t stop you from experiencing life or having fun…like going to a dance or kissing someone. Take a chance, someone is waiting.
And who says you can’t go to the junior prom solo? Buy a nice dress and get your hair done at a nice salon. Don’t attend hoping others will join in your pity party. Go to have the best time of your life. And you know what? It probably will be.
The thing is, i am in clubs, and I swim year round.
It’s not like I don’t get involved, I just tend to get lost behind everyone else.

Which is just fine. Being the life of the party or the most popular girl on campus is way overrated. That’s just not you. You seem very comfortable in your own skin. Inner beauty is what everyone wishes they had and you already have it. Let it shine!

Oh, I’m not a wallower lol. I know that being depressed isn’t attractive.
The only reason i’m not going is because all my friends have dates, and i don’t want to be the only one without one.
Yeah don’t worry at all. Just learn to find the people who intrigue you in all sorts of social circles. Usually I’m just easygoing and open. In the right setting I might crack a physics joke or a pun and those who get it usually end up being fast friends… but being in high school I guess physics is hardly the friend making subject outside of chess club… but puns are awesome… and subtle… and satisfying… I like puns
And like cannabis alluded to, keep a smile in your heart. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did….
A mother was sitting on the couch reading a book when one of her children walked up to her and said, “Mummy, why is my name Petal?”
The mother replied, “Because when you were born, a petal fell on your head.”
The next baby walked up and asked, “Mummy why is my name Rose?” she replied,
“Because when you were born, a rose fell on your head.”
The last baby walked up to her and said, “BLAS CLAFLAS YIFRASSAM TASSM POONNFFFIINRTY.”
The mother replied, “Please be quiet, Refrigerator.”
hahahahahahahahaha just made my night!

Sound articulate, look pretty…so I wouldnt worry about finding a guy, they’ll flock to you soon enough I’m sure.
As a guy who is not a normal sixteen year old, is extremely quiet (usually), who doesn’t have a ton of friends (and none that I feel I actually relate to), and don’t really put myself out there (the corner’s more comfortable anyway. >.>) and have never kissed a girl, have high standards, am not fat, am not hideous (afaik), and … okay, well, I have a couple blemishes. But I fit most of that other stuff.
Your standards aren’t too high, and I certainly don’t suggest whoring yourself out like most girls seem to do. It’ll probably end up making more problems than solving the ones you have now anyway. (drama sucks mirite)
There’s no easy way to get someone to ’see who you are’, especially if you don’t have any interest in anyone. (mind you, I don’t either) Chances are you can’t force people who are blind to see much anything. Not the way you want them to, anyway. Not for who you are.
The best advice I can offer is to try not to force relationships. But if someone smiles at you from across the room, smile back. Even though you don’t have interest in anyone right now, I know you haven’t gotten to know everyone in your entire school intimately and decided them unworthy. Just keep an open mind. People aren’t always what they seem.
What’s wrong with having high standards? Better than the opposite..
The lucky thing about being a girl is that you can smile at someone across the room and people usually WON’T consider you a creeper. Luuuckyyy. :U
When is your prom? Do I have enough time to rent a tux?
Haha.
It’s this weekend.
