Family help: I have made a lot of mistakes and now am in a bit of a bind. - Help.com

I have made a lot of mistakes and now am in a bit of a bind.

I stand to loose my house.

Here is my story:
I got married in 2003 and got pregnant in 2004. I had my son in 2005 and bought a house in 2006. I had a nice house and car. However, I wasn’t truly happy. My husband and I hardly talked and I was very unhappy. I worked and took care of my son, that was my life. I wasn’t able to go out with family or friends and I didn’t talk to my husband. I did not want my son to grow up thinking that was how married life was supposed to be. I want him to know what it is to be in love and how you should cherish each other.

In 2007 I filed for a divorce, yes that is right I decided to get a divorce. I wanted to be free, I wanted to be happy, I wanted to be able to go back to school and most importantly, I wanted to start a new life with positive outlooks. I wanted my son to know women can be strong and independent and that men can better a woman by being supportive.

During my divorce, I decided to keep the house so my son would not have to adjust to so many things. As a result I had to pay for a house on a very small salary. I work with special education students. I am not a teacher but an Assistant.

When I got divorced I did not change my spending habits. I got myslef into a lot of debt and now am facing the fact I may loose my home. I have since stop spending money like I have 2 incomes. I am going to school full-time, working full-time and being a full-time mom.

I admit I have made my share of mistakes, But I have also learned a great deal from them as well.

I am a good person I just made bad decisions with my finances.

SO what do I need from you? Well, I have to come up with $5000.00 to stay in my home.

I am asking no actually I am BEGGING you for help! Please help me, I dont want my son to have to pay for my stupidity.

You can donate whatever amount you choose any bit helps! Thank you for your help!

You came to the wrong site for money. Most of the people here at help.com are here to help but not with money, sorry! Most of us here at help.com are so broke we have a hard time paying attention!

Sorry. Good luck!

I hope you get what you need. We ALL have made mistakes that put us in a bit of a bind … I honestly don’t know anyone who hasn’t … and so I do truly empathize with you. The problem is, there really are not many fairy godmothers out there who are either willing or able to wave a magic and make things turn out right for us. Probably you are going to need to hit bottom before you start rebuilding. Can you check with your mortgage-holders, and see whether you might be able to negotiate new terms for an amount you can afford to pay each month?

If not, well, all I can tell you is that you sound like you are young enough to make a new beginning and get things back on track.

Good luck–I hope you make it.

Theresape is right, tens of thousand of people are in this same situation right now. I am sure family and friends won’t let you and your kid live in the streets.
How about getting a roommate to help with the bills?

Try other mortgage lenders. Ask your lawyer and state reps whether they know any bailout programs you may qualify for. Google every phrase you can think of. Just make sure that the program you choose is legitimate—there are a lot of predators out there. Check with regulatory agencies, have your attorney check, call the Better Business Bureau, get references if you can and THEN check out the references to make sure THEY are legit.

Honestly, unless you have a rich relative or have something expensive (a recent-model car? a large diamond?) you can sell, I doubt you’re going to suddenly find the money to set things straight. In that case, I think your only chance is to find someone who will write you a new mortgage into which you can roll the whole payoff (including the past-due amount) and the closing costs.

Otherwise, it looks like you might have to just go for a “short sale” or let the bank take the property. You can start off new as a tenant somewhere. Even in the worst-case scenario (bankruptcy), you will have a clean slate in, say, ten years and can try again to become a homeowner.

Do you have a lot invested in the property?

I’ll send a prayer your way.
