So I’ve decided what I want to be FINALLY.
It’s only taken around 10 years but I’m sure! This isn’t a help post as such more a discussion starter. I need to train though and would love help on ideas on how to stay focused during study and not become too broke!

Vetinary nurse! I have always loved animals and I enjoy caring for people and animals. I get easily bored with routine and administration work. It would mean going back to school though at 30 as I never did well at school, however I have read many profiles / reviews etc. and I know this is the path I want to take :-)
Veterinary Nurse? could be a good job. It will be very rewarding. Good luck.
Awww that’s a lovely job! I love the idea of working with animals but I did a work placement at a vets in Dartford, Kent and to be honest it just upset me! All these poor beautiful animals dying from innocent little operations like bunny rabbits having their nails removed and cats getting their tubes tied etc. I warned all my friend off of this vets lol.
My mum just started a new career as a private computing tutor for blind/disabled people at 53 and had to get all new qualifications so if she can do it in her 50’s you can definitely do it in your 30’s!
Whenever I studied I find it better if (and this might sound off) I have really loud heavy metal blaring in the background. It silences everything and lets me concentrate. I used to have a dictaphone too that I would record myself saying the stuff I needed to learn then listen back to it (because studies prove we retain information better by speaking it and by hearing it) rather than just reading/copying.
Veterinary nurse - I realised I spelt that wrong :-) Well yes there is the downside such as the animals that don’t do so well, but I would be trying to help the majority and usually you can get a lot of sick animals better. It’s important not to get too attached whilst at the same time caring for the welfare of the animals - which is difficult to juggle. However I feel I would be good at this and would gain a great deal of satisfaction from helping the animals and being with them. Also there would be little routine, so every day would be different and I thrive in that environment. Heavy metal :-) well I used to listen to that to take my mind off my hangovers so yes it could work with studying too :-p
Cheers for the advice and the encouragement.
Hi Spangle,
That’s great u’ve decided i’m happy for you! it could be a great job! I hope you get through it :) good luck :)
Lil mo.
Thanks Lil Mo. Actually last week a position came up for an animal support staff / receptionist and I’ve applied for it. It said training will be given in all aspects so that is a great opportunity if I get it.
I wish you luck!
Spangle, I think that you could do it! You’re a caring person, and animals are great to care for, cause then you’re not only taking care of the animal, but the family who owns the pet as well.
BTW, How have you BEEN!!?!?
Not too bad thanks! A bit stressed recently but apart from that ok. I haven’t had a call back for an interview as yet so I’m a bit concerned. Well I did get a text but couldnt make the interview and so the lady said she would get back and she didn’t so I’ve been chasing but there is a fine line between sounding keen and harrassing someone. I don’t want to cross it :-)
How are you?
Didn’t get the interview that time but since have been made redundant from my job i disliked. another job came up in the same firm and I got another interview. I also got offered a placement in voluntary veterinary work and am applying for a vet course in college woo hoooo!! :-)
Hi!
You helped me out just a sec ago, and I’d like to return the favor :)
i’m so glad you could settle down on something you like spangle! its great to know what you’re heading towards in life. I have no real direction right now and can only imagine how nice it’d be to have a gameplan. But doing veterinary work is awesome and sounds so much fun! I hope you really enjoy it!
Thank you. I am currently studying maths and biology to gain access to the course next year. I have also enquired about veterinary experience. It’s tough to decide what is right in life but I knew my past office job wasn’t what I wanted long term. I am temping at the moment to fund the bills but hope to find something soon.
