I have an important job interview on Monday.
it is imperative that I get this job. What do you think is the most important thing to do in an interview?

- look sharp, dress for the job you want not the job you have
- bring copies of your resume and cover letter
- review questions they may ask about the job, “what makes you suited for this job, what previous experience do you have that would make you a good choice for this job, etc”
- make eye contact, be friendly
- put your phone on silent and put it away! (we interviewed someone at my work this past week and he had out his cell phone, thats not smart)
- ask them, if i was hired, where would you like to see my performance in 6 months, a year? ask them what the day to day duties are like (it really takes them back when you ask them questions)
- BE YOURSELF!!
good luck!
Thanks for the advice walliedoodle and I will take everything you said and apply it. I probaly will not sleep again untilthe interview is over. A lot is hanging in the balance, my whole future and I am not being dramatic, so thanks to all of you that responded
Good luck! I had a job interview 6 months ago for the position I have now. I was so nervous because it was my first managment position. I did everything above (my parents really helped me a lot) and got the job!
GOOD LUCK!!!
well keep positive. dont let anything negative come to you at that time dont get nervous if you do, think of something funny to relax yourself and remember, that person was in your seat before and try to break the ice by asking a question about the company. but most of all best of luck and dont let that person intimidate you.
Be honest, on time , professional and neat in appearance
i will pray for you buddy i believe God for your job.
Go over your life’s accomplishments to build a short story about yourself. The interviewers like someone that has a continuous track record of their pursuits. Whether it’s commiting themselves to making life better for those around them, or pursuing interests of value, etc.
The story may go like this: I have been working with my father or uncle since I was ten years old doing odd jobs. During my lifetime I have always shown an interest in mechancial things, or electrical things, etc. I enjoy being around people and have joined teams in sports, economics, etc.
I am sure you can sum up your life history better than I can for sure. But, I do hope that I have given you an idea.
I often tell people that I am people pleaser because I like working with people. This gives them the knowledge that I work well with others.
They will ask you what you greatest attributes are and your worse attributes. The worse can be an attribute that you can overcome. As an example you might say: When I was at my last position I had trouble keeping my tasks in order so I decided to use the Outlook Calendar to keep things straight and complete my jobs on time. This shows that you resolved an issue that was perplexing to you. It’s turning a bad trait into a good trait.
Good luck to you, I am sure you will do find.
Thanks a lot-the countdown has begun-2pm tomorrow-this job will change my life for the better, so thanks to all of you
The interview went well, better than I expected-I am about98% sure that they will offerme the job-said they had to check references, etc, but I’m thinking, whey didn’t you alread check references? GO figure-anyway you angels are a lot of comfort to me. I mean, I don’t want you to all have terrible problems, but it helps likeI said to know I am not alone. So, thanks, and maybe they will call tomorrow. I called my references to give them a heads-up about it and they’re good, so fingers crossed. If I get it, my cabin becomes a reality. Work will start on it asap. And, I am not hiring people to do it, so it will take a while. Lots of landscaoing to do. I am optimistic, cautiously. Hope everybody’s doing okay today!
That sounds great!
They probably don’t check references until after they speak with you to make sure they want you working there and they like you as a person. Sounds like you did a really good job! :)
This sounds like the interview went well. I will keep my fingers crossed and also say a little prayer. Good luck.
Thanks-Prayers are welcome and appreciated!!
I hope you got the job! Good idea calling your references before hand. That is extremely proffesional!
They have not offered me the job yet. I will give them another day and then I will have to take a travel job. I hate leaving my animals, even though they have excellent care when I am gone-just don’t want to have to go away this time. Maybe they will call tomorrow. Thanks for all of your good thoughts. I spoke with one of my references today and she said that they haven’t called her for the reference. This is becoming old, but there is no choice-I have to make a living, regardless. Gotta take my own advice and hang tough!
then again. you did interview monday and its only tuesday.
we are in the interview process right now where I work - i know my HR person doesnt get back to my manager to discuss the interview until the next day sometimes. a lot of our new hires dont get a call back until 2 or 3 days later.
obviously if they made you take a drug test that will take time too. sometimes they have to do background checks etc. This may not be that sort of position. either way good luck!
I know, thanks. I guess I’mjust in panic mode-good advice-I will try not to overreact-easier said than done, but I will try. Hope everybody’s doing okay tonight
