Almost every night, I am JUST about all the way asleep, then I jump, almost like a “startle” response.

It is driving me crazy bc it gets my heart pumping again, and makes my adrenaline rush and I have to try to fall asleep all over again. Whay is it? Any ideas? How do I stop it?

Possibly due to some underlying stress or anxiety. Also are you having any caffeine before you go to bed?

Thank you both for answering. I don’t drink coffee, tea, dark pops or anything like that. I drink milk mostly. I do have anxiety.

I’ve never heard of idoser before. “lucid dreams” hmmm. Interesting. Does it cost anything? Thanks again. :)

Sounds like you are having hypnic jerks. They are generally nothing to worry about and very common, something like 10% of people have them regularly.

Not enough research has been done to work out why we get them or how to stop them, but one theory is that your body is fooled into thinking it’s falling as your muscles relax and brain motor control lessens. It’s an instinctive jolt to try and save you from danger.

I’d say try and get some help sorting out your anxiety and the hypnic jerks may become less regular. Sleeping disorders are often a symptom of the underlying issue.

Thanks, I am working at it. I do have issues, but sometimes they are worse than others. Thank you for the advice. :)

I get that too, but the doctor just said to me it is your brain mistaking something that happened earlier in the day (saving you from danger).
