My cat is extremely fat.

She’s about 15 pounds. I have two other cats who are completely healthy accouridng to my vet. I am supposed to get the fat cat to loose weight, so I started measuring her portions of food. This became difficult since I have two other cats (she eats it all).

I cant figure out how to keep the fat cat on a diet while the other two really dont need intervention. I tried to feed my fattie at one time, and the other two and one time, but it all ended up mushed together into one bowl because i dont want to keep feedin them soft food.

Any ideas?

the fat one definitly needs a diet or it will get diabeaties.
Cats are quick learners.
Have a time u feed them and stick to it.
Lock fatty in another room with his smaller portion.
Dont leave bisciuts avalible all day, remove them after they have eaten as much as they want.

Great idea! I was worried I would have to feed them wet food because it’s easier to portion and you dont have to leave it out.

Fatty is definately a quick learner because she’s noticed that meowing at me and begging gets her food (although she has enough fat to live off of for days).

I’ll try that out. Thanks!

some animals are just free-eaters (everything insight) and it would be hard to separate yours. Sounds like you’ve tried a lot of things. Did the vet check for diabetes? I have dogs, two of them stop when they are full and the third one, well, he would eat until he exploded. I keep them separated, except for exercise and paly time. They have two different diets, too. A caring owner tries everything and I think you have. Maybe contact a cat specialist. I know of one down where I’m at but I don’t think I can post the web site, sorry

To walliedoodle, much luck and sheis a very lucky kitty to have so much love. She is probably very happy. The whining they learn, I have one cat and I swear she is so rotten. I can tell exactly what she wants, by the type of whining that’s going on. Cats are trippy-good luck with separating them. It takes a lot thought and energy to be creative with the felines.

How about you get a timed feeder? It releases food at whatever settings you have.

You should reduce her food by 30%. She will beg, but it is for her own good. She should start to lose weight. Also, get a toy and see if you can get her moving around. You don’t want to kill you pet with love through food. When you get her to the right weight, you can watch and increase or decrease her food as needed. It is good animal husbandry.

give it tuna. j/k play with her buy her toys. why dont you isolate the cats at feeding time. buy her a toy that she can chase. tie food to it to make sure your cat follows it.

If you add a little more protein in her diet like tuna and less starch, she should start losing weight. Although I do have a puggy Beagle. My Beagle would eat until it burst also. I don’t know what that is.

There are websites that offer recipes to make treats for cats and dogs at home and they don’t contain a lot of gluten. The higher the carbohydrates, the more we gain weight. So I suggest reading the labels and buy high-protein and low-carbohydrates dry food plus add a spoonful of tuna.

I have two cats, and one of them is the right weight, and the other is overweight. We tried feeding both of our cats less, but the fat one ends up eating the little ones food, too. So we brought him to the vet and asked if there was anything to do, and he didn’t say there was anything except feeding him less and trying to get him to exersice more.

Just feed the cats in separate rooms so the bigger one can’t get to the other food.
And try and get like a string or something and have the cat chase it around the house for exersice.

Hope this helps.

I see a lot of cat toys at garage sales. But, you can make a cat clawer by taking four pieces of wood and making them into a box 18 inches log. At the carpet stores they sell these rug samples for a couple of dollars. Buy and staple it to the wood box. You can use a hanger to wire to the box and then tie a rope to it. Hang it up where it’s in the cat’s path and they will have fun with it. At the garage sales I have seen these cat trees for sale. They are really fun for the cats. If you have some catnip you can rub it on the carpeting and they will jump for joy. Hope this helps.
