You don’t say why you are considering quitting, but the best answer, with the limited facts you gave, is you should stay in school.

ok. why i should quit:
failing english. u fail that you cant graduate.
failing 2 other subjects.
have no desire to be there. no motivation. i need more money so need more time working
why i should stay:
i like my art class. can see friends easily. want to go to the yr 12 grad ball.

It’s very, very hard to get caught up when you get that far behind. I’m sure you are feeling completely overwhelmed by that. There are credit recovery opportunities in just about every school system. Talk to your school counselor, headmaster, dean, whatever about what you can do. Talk to the teachers in the classes you are failing and tell them you want to try to catch up.

But do know this will take work on your part. You’re gonna have to do extra work, go to tutoring, maybe even go to summer school, etc. to catch up. And catching up is NOT going to happen if you don’t work. So for your motivation, think about the reasons you want to stay in school, and let those things motivate you.

Also, another reason you should add to your list of reasons to stay is your future opportunities will be limited if you quit now.

Well, if you are still in high school you might consider getting your GED instead of just completely dropping out. It is a great option for those who have fallen so far behind that it will be hard for them to catch up but still want to complete their education.

May I ask Why you’re not doing well in those classes? Is it because you just find the material boring, or too difficult? What are the other two subjects you mentioned?

By the way… You have no idea (or maybe you do) how much your reasons for staying IN school outweigh your reasons for dropping out. Art, friends, and fun - vs. - quiting and lower selfconfidence.

That councellor should fired!!! That’s disgusting. I’d stay in school just to spite him/her. :-)

Ok. Seriously… I was trying not to be blunt, but I can’t hold it back… DO NOT DROP OUT!!! :-) It’s not a good idea. And dropping out of school closes a lot of doors that you haven’t even noticed or seen yet.

Any reason that you can come up with as to why you should drop out, I guarrantee I can tell you why it’s not a reason at all. Go ahead, try me :-)

You’re in grade 12, right?

That happens in a few schools actually… it’s horrible, and should really be exposed to the media…

Stay in school… in 5 years time you’ll regret it… it’s bad the way a small fraction of your life at the beginning has a snowball effect for the rest of your life.. I mean, if you leave now, think of all the jobs you can do, McDonalds was once the last resort but now you need to finish school to work there.. If you leave, you won’t have any options in life… and that could lead to some form of depression…

Your failing English… Ok, I was too in my last year.. because of my teacher… she was a big chested bimbo with a complete disregard for students who weren’t prep’s or jocks… Anyways, If you pretend to love the subject, you’ll start to feel better about it… the power of positive thinking… I won’t bore you with psychological mumbo jumbo.. but it does work.. “I checked… online…” (quote from HotRod!)

That’s just a reason to work hard to pass english. So what if it’s a challenge, school is supposed to be challenging. That’s one of the most important things you learn at school… How to deal with challenges. This is just one small challenge that’ll make a huge difference for your future.

The most important thing I learned was in english class :-)

You’re in australia?

Apprenticeships and traineeships, well yeah, but.. usually to be accepted into those you need qualifications.. i don’t know if Aus is the same..

Don’t let it fall apart… stay with it…

Do the exams, think of how much of a boost it will be years from now when you say, “there was so much sh*t on my back, but i stuck with it.. and passed”

I had a argument with some n0b-head about quitting and giving up… the easiest thing for you to do is quit school.. without a shadow of a doubt.. it is… , it’s entirely up to you.. you can either give up now, or stick with it for the next few years (that will fly by, they really do), and do something huge with your life..

I am so sorry about what your school counselor said. In the US dropout rates matter, too, but I guess that’s not a concern in Australia?

The bottom line, is you need to do what is right for you, and only you. But I think you can do this . . .

This is about your future hon, you can drop out and spend your life working in burger bars, or you can stay and get qualified to work the jobs that will give you a good and secure living.
Look at what happening with the economy at the moment, job security is a must and the only way to get it is to finish school and start the process now.
You wont see the result of dropping out until well into your future, as Roltz said, you’ll look back in a few years and realize your mistake if you don’t stay on. Do this for you, at the end of the day, its all about you and your future hon.

The bottom line is that you have to finish school at some point, or you have no future earnings potential. Finish now or finish later, the choice is yours. But if you don’t finish, you’ll need a strong back for manual labor. Which classes you like and who you are socializing with are not really important. Those are just distractions from the real issue.

The fact that you have no idea about what you want to do really points you toward finishing school. So many doors will be closed to you if you don’t get that under your belt.
