this ones for all the sports medicine types out there.

i’m 24 and used to be an avid distance runner. i took about 6 months off from running awhile back. i finally felt the itch to start running again so i jumped back into it, only my ankles didn’t seem to get the memo. it seems everytime i get going now before i can even break a sweat i get terrible pain in both ankles, i mean all around the ankle, from the achilles to the sides, and the front. i thought maybe i was trying too much too fast, so i took about a month off then tryed again taking it easy, with the same result. this is the first time i’ve ever had a problem like this. i’ve tryed some exercises, (ankle rotations, walking figure8s to warm up the ankles before running) which didn’t seem to help. funny thing is that the pain seems to stop as soon as i stop running, i can walk just fine without any pain. if anybody has any suggestions on how to help i’d appreciate it.

Have you ever tried Yoga? Might help with lengthening and strengthening your tendons and ligaments-seem too young to have this problem-usually if you start back slowly, there’s not a problem-same shoes? or did you change? The stores that sell the inserts for arches and etc. some make molds of your feet, others do impressions of your feet-either way starting off slowly with a few warm up exercises and great stretching and great shoes usually does the trick, unless you have developed arthitis at an early age-hope not, either way, you can find an answer with a good sports medicine person
