I was wondering if anyone knew of any good psychology books one that explains personality types i.e.

sociopaths or why people are into bodybuilding lifting weights…while people join the military…common trends that shy people do etc kinda really get into the human mind I would prefer a newer book so that way everything is sorta up to date but if it’s an older book they still use to teach with that would be awesome =) thank you.

I dont know if they still teach with this one or not, but B.F. Skinner wrote a fascinateing piece that explored the ego, super ego, and the id.
I feel like an idiot but I just now forgot what it was called.

Really?! Skinner?! I’d love to read that! What, was it like a behavioural take on it?

Why can’t you remember :(

Well I don’t know of any books about that, but the one really good psychology book I have been reading as of late is called “Choice Theory” by William Glasser, M.D. you might like it.

Freud? Sigman Frued I think it is.

Anyway, Choice theory is a sort of self help book in a way. It is a new way to think/act/behave in life

Much Freudian theory has been shown to be pure fiction so you would want to stay away from his stuff.

everything is fiction in the end. Unless we know everything, we know nothing for sure. And there is no way to know how much we really know.

realize that psychology, just like medical science is based on pattern and study and learning. if we knew everything about medicine, we’d allready have a cure for some of the nastier diseases floating around. If we knew everything about behavioural psychology, we could rehabilitate criminals instead of seeing the “third time loser” scenario.

Ah, the old I think therefore I am. Maybe you have a hard time realizing certain things, but personally I have never seen person walking through solid walls. Now, no matter how much you want to believe that you can walk through walls you will never be able to and no matter how many times you try the only thing you will succeed in is giving yourself a massive headache.

I can understand wanting to use what works, but your statement is based on the assumtion that we are products of our environments. Hoping to give a person the right stimuli to cause him to change will not work ever. That person has to choose to change of his own free will.

Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it can’t happen.

But I guess walking through walls isn’t as crazy as walking on water.

I was speaking of regular people such as yourself, not an infintly powerful being. And for the record He walked through walls as well.

yes, because that is much more plausible.

I do not deny the possibility that he did that just as I do not deny the possibility that any of us could. I couldn’t deny one or the other without being a hypocrite.

Well what the book says is that depending on when stuff happened to us in early childhood we have different issues that can dominate our lives. Like if your Mom didn’t relate to you so very much when you were a newborn you kind of repress your life force and try not to take up space and then your issue is I Have the Right to Exist. It goes on from there to cover a bunch of issues people have.
