Half Asian Half Caucasian Kids.

Many people think that half asian have white kids usually come out looking like a sort of slightly washed out asian, meaning that they have all the classical asian features but with maybe brown hair instead of black, lighter skin, or maybe even lighter eyes. I would like to point out that it’s about a 50/50 shot whether a half asian baby will look asian. If the white parent has more “asian-like” features like narrower eyes and a dark complexion (as is common in many white people) then the mix will probably end up looking quite asian. However, if this is not the case (as is also common in many white people) the baby may look mostly white with perhaps a darker complexion then an all-white baby would have. Either way one parent’s physical racial appearance is not going to match their child’s. I feel like this could cause issues in public where people will jump to conclusions like the child’s adopted, being cared for by a nanny, or even that the asian parent is kidnapping the white looking kid. An african american family adopted a white child recently and they face constant confusion from outsiders everyday. This seems terribly unfair to me, but those people acting this way aren’t trying to be racist, they just don’t know how else to react to these situations

I was just wondering what people thought about this kind of behavior towards mixed race families and children. Do you have any ideas on what we all should do about this?

I would say just to try and be as open about it as possible. Are they confused that the child looks like a blend of his parents (which is completely normal). Or as they confused that some people don’t date within their race (which is fairly common place). I don’t like the idea of people having to explain themselves, like..this is why my child is so light. So hopefully it won’t come to that. If they don’t know how to react, all I can say is to be calm and open about it. The African American family with the adopted white child might be more of a social thing. People may have the belief that kids should look somewhat like their parents. You know, while some people may not be trying to be racist, they may not be able to help it if they come off as racist. As long as they’re not antagonistic about it - just talk to them. It wouldn’t hurt anyone.
