Sony Vegas 8 and .AVI files?

I’m having trouble with Sony Vegas 8 handling some .AVI files. It’s strange, though. When I first started with it, it would only handle the audio for the files, but then I did some research and downloaded the correct codec and up until now I’ve had no problems. Just a few minutes ago, I tried to use another .AVI file in Sony Vegas 8, and it did the thing where it only handles the sound. It’s only doing this with a few files, not all of my .AVIs. I did more research and downloaded a program called GSpot, and it’s telling me I’m missing the codec called H.264/MPEG-4 AVC. I can’t find it anywhere. Can anyone help me find a solution?
