My only hobby is to play videogames, which I’m sure isn’t rare in today’s society. I always considered it my ‘talent’, not that I was neccesarily the greatest at video games (not at all) but I was at least definitely above average. My point is that for some reason, lately I’ve been doing really bad in videogames (mostly online). I know to most of you it doesn’t seem like a big deal, which I perfectly understand, but it’s just that its the only thing I enjoy doing. Everytime I play something, purely to have fun, I get my behind blasted. It’s like the only thing I liked was swept from beneath my feet. I’ll give you an example: I’ll play a shooting game, I’m about to kill somebody with my gun and the person doesn’t notice me, I’m literally a bullet away from killing him. And BAM!, his team-mate comes and shoots me in the back with a shotgun.
The online world is a crazy place, and if stuff like that happens every now and then - then that’s understandable. But it happens EVERYTIME! and that was just 1 out of 1000’s of examples.
My eyesight isn’t the best, in fact I’m nearly blind in my left eye. But with the glasses I wear (24/7), my vision in the right eye is 20/20 (which btw is ‘average’). I honestly don’t think it’s my eyesight hindering me from being as good as I was. Well anyways it’s just sad when you try to be fair and have a nice game, and you basically get punished. I am pretty into videogames, and I always check out screenshots and videos of new, upcoming ones. But I always think in the back of my head, that it’s not really worth getting since I’ll just get dissapointed due to my skill. I know you people are probably gonna try to tell em to practice or something similar, but I play videogames usually everyday so I really don’t understand. It probably seems ridiculous to you guys, but its like this: Imagine you’re a photographer and the only thing you like doing is taking pictures, but all come out blurry. No matter how good your tripod is, how good the lighting is, and how still the camera is they all come out blurry.
It’s been like this since over a year, so its not like Im having a bad streak. But the thing is I truly try to be good, watch other players, practice. But w/e I do, I still get whopped. I switch up my gameplay, but its pointless. I’ve been trying to buy some new games, but as the economy current state is - I have no money. Well people always say “everything happens for a reason”, so I should probably just hang up my gloves and quit. It’s just sad, because I even avoid buying games that are great since I know I’ll get killed at it. I truly wonder if I have some type of curse attached to me, or if in mny last life I killed 120 people to deserve this punishment. But its unbearable to see that the only thing you were once good at (and had fun with), you get destroyed at. Like you were the grandmaster of chess, and an amateur beats you three times in a row. It’s saddening, but I should probably just give it up and find something boring to do.

look I now it seems ridiculous, but I tried to use the best wordage. I’ve been going through some tough stuff since a while, and videogames were something to relief me of my mysery a bit. I just thought you guys would understand, that’s why I used the photographer example. Videogames meant a lot to me, I was seriously considering a career in it. But I gave up, since I’m dissapointed in myself for my skill. If you wanna make fun of me for that then go ahead, MANY people do it so I don’t really blame you.
I can get exactly where you are coming from with this one. I must say that we have quite a bit in common. Videogames are probably the only things I can say I’m pretty good at. I don’t recommend that you give up. Sure, online can be extremely crazy, and infuriating, at times but there are usually better days.
I’m a bit curious as to how long you’ve been playing. Could you give me a rough estimate?
I appreciate what both of you wrote, well on a daily basis I play about 4 hours at least. Most of the time 8+, since atm I dont go to school nor work. Also I will give you an example, Arkia. I put 100 hrs in Socom Confrontatiton, and I have like a 0.7 K/D ratio. And im in a pretty darn good clan, that help me out as much as possible. Like I said I really appreciate it, it’s good to know that some people understand where I’m coming from.
Game trends come and go. Developers “tune” the games for whatever play-style is popular right now. i.e. to rely more on speed, or learning the map, or teamwork, etc. It’s just the current style doesn’t match yours. Co-op is the key thing many games are being tuned to right now. You may just need a co-op buddy or team.
I wouldn’t give up, it will come around again.
Also, go to your doctor and get a checkup. If your vision or reactions are off, it could be something simple to fix. My score drops by half after I take my allergy medicine. It makes my head foggy and my reactions sloppy. It could be something like that for you, too.
Heh, well I think it is awesome to hear from someone like you. I was more asking for a total time playing games in general, but that was fine too. 0.7 is a fairly good K/D but since I don’t play Socom I can’t say how good.
As for me, I’ve been playing online games for roughly 7 years. Not nearly good enough to go pro or anything, but still decent.
M8R-q3gby, Thank you. I have JRA, Glau Coma, and Uwities since I was 5. Im nearly 19 now, so since the first day I’ve played videogames at I had these illnesses and was handycapped. Still I think out of my many games, there should be 1 just 1 I should be half-decent at. Like always I appreciate people listening to me and answering me in a postive way.
Well, 0.7 means for every 100 deaths I kill 70 people. Considering I’m in a very good clan it should be, IMO, like 1.01+. And btw Socom is out of all my games, the one I do best in. I’ve been playing videogames probably around 11-12 years.
Yea I know what a K/D ratio means. 1.0 is probably the minimum K/D that I want to get. I play a lot of Counter Strike: Source and I’m usually anywhere between 0.2 to 12.0 as a K/D during a match. Like I said, it’s pretty crazy.
2.3 is extremely good IMO. Well like lets say I had a 0.9, but I had a lot of assists and more wins then losses then that be fine. But obviously its not the case in any game, idk I think I will just give up. Considering that there have to be bad players with all those good players, I’m probably just one. But I’m sure everyone will agree with me, that something is more fun when you’re good at it.
Oh I agree completely. Things are definitely more fun if you’re good at them. I just wonder what you will do if you end up quitting. Personally after playing for so many years I’ve come to find most other things are now boring and uninteresting. I think you need to ask yourself it is really worth quitting.
Like I said there’s really nothing else I’m good at, so I’ll probably just keep my games and let them collect dust. It’s not worth it anymore, you try and try again but get dropped on your head everytime.
I think it is worth it. And I can list millions of things that happen to me like the example you gave in the original post. I couldn’t possibly count how many times I’ve snuck up on someone only to have them blow me away the moment I switch to a melee weapon. Couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve been tk’d. Nor how many times I’ve fallen off of maps, suicided with grenades, or fell for the most obvious tricks. I’ve been in a UT match where I died the moment I spawned every time. I played an Operation Flashpoint match where my team was spawn camped the entire time. Believe me, I’ve been there and I still think it’s worth it.

ya idk wut to do, if i could actually grow and become better. but its been like this since a while, i just stay the same or get worse. Everything else besides videogames, isn’t working out for me either. So I’m in a hole, but I’m used to it it’s been like this since I’ve been born. I honestly can’t look back at my life saying there was a good time.
Honestly, I wish I knew what to do also. There really is no concrete way to get better the way I see. I do, however, firmly believe that all things have a certain ‘flow’ to them. I know it’s probably a silly idea and it is somewhat hard to explain too. But any time that I’ve been truly good at something, anything, there seems to be some kind of a flow to it. Something where one thing just leads to another and soon everything is going exactly the way I want it. I guess that might be why I think it’s worth it.
Well just wanted to throw that silly idea out there. Something besides the usual “practice makes perfect” cliche.

Go and see people in real life. You don’t need to k!ll them, and they won’t k!ll you either (most likely). get out and meet people. Stop online gaming. It is a waste of time. Imagine how many hours you waste! You could be earning money from a job for an education, or a trip with REAL memories. Good luck!
Well, sounds like you are stressing too much over it. As an avid gamer myself, I enjoy the game much less when I’m “trying” to play good, and usually do worse because of it. Try and sit back and enjoy it. Maybe its the type of game? I am pretty horrible at FPS games, but am good good at other kinds. I also suck at 2D fighters, but play well in 3D fighters.
Also, if you need new games, try free ones, or downloadable ones for xbox live done by independent game companies. Indie games are usually cheaper, but are still extremely fun and amazing! Another free one is League of Legends, extremely fun, but also extremely competitive.
